1 John Scrannage died at his farm home near Waterford Monday aged 76. He was prominent in the affairs of the county many years.

- Charles Swart, aged 52 dropped dead at New Paris. He was a prominent farmer and a former member of the state legislature. ;

. Child Dies of Injuries.. Glgndors Mathews four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Mathews, ‘who live just north of Benton was fatally injured about 6:45 Saturday evening when a Ford touring car was run into a Wabash freight train at Benton. Mrs. Mathews was also injured about the legs, but not seriously, it is thought and Earl Hapner 14 son of Frank Hapner of Benton sustained a broken collar bone. Two other} children of Mr. and Mrs. Mathews, Delmore and Darwin and another| son of Mr. and Mrs. Hapner, Clarejnce were in the car at the time of the accident but were not sinjured except for slight bruises. The smash up oecurred at a lane just north of the Lincoln Highway. The car was being driven by one of the boys who{ failed to see the train: : =

Rifle Club Convention.

Ireland of lonia Mich., President of the National Association of Winchester Clubs and chairman of its executive committee has appointed committee’s to handle the various phases of work for the third annual convention of the National Association of Winchester Clubswhich will be held in the Coliseum, Chicago, 111, June 25, 26 27 and 28th. = - Three thousand Winchester dealers are expected to be present. New Golf Instructor.

John W. (“Jock”) Watson has arrived at Lake Wawasee to take charge of the golf links on' the north shore coming from Nashville, Tenn., where he was for some time with a sporting goods house and golf school: Previously he had been professional at the Noelton Golf club. Nashville and the Hopkinsville, (Ky.) G and Country club. -He is a native of Scotland, raised on the St. Andrews links the most famous in the world. . Directors of the Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Wolcottville in conference with W: H. Favinger of Noble County and county agents Cunningham and Kline decided Monday evening to foster a Holstein Calf club for boys and girls living in Noble and LaQrange counties. The Bank will purchase the best calves obtainable in Wisconsin or some other dairy section and distribute them to the club members at cost on an easy payment plan. Every boy or girl who'-makes§ application will be given a calf. The Wolcottville Condensory is Co~operatv' ing in the project. :

More Than Double Corn Yield.

For the last ten years Arkansas corn-club boys following cultural methods recommended by agricultural extension workers, have each 'year a little more than doubled the average! corn yield per acre of the State under the usual methods of cultivation, according to reports to the United States Department of Agricl)lture. . e \

School Teacher Dies.

J. E. Miller 50 years old residing at 623 Sturgis street Fort Wayne was found dying in an.automobile parked near the corner of Harrison street and Washington boulevard in that city by the policeman on the beat at' 2 o’clock Tuesday morning. He 'was rushed to the Methodist hospital but died soon after he reached the institution. “Death was due to apoplexy.
