- Dan O’Leary veteran hiker was in this section this week. He recently challenged Edward Payson, Weston to a 1,000 mile hike offering a handicap of 50 miles. He will celebrate his 82nd birthday anniversary July 29 by walking 100 miles in 24 consecutive hours.. This is his usual celebration of the day. }

Decided Upon Pneumonia.

After a lengthy investigation the grand jury invesfigating the death of Wilbur Davis 6 year old school boy ddjourned without returning an indictment at Muncie. ' ~ Charges were made that his illness result‘ed from a whipping he received at school. The coroner’s verdict was that death was due to pneumonia.

Sol Meredith Post, G. A. R. of Ricl: mond will present a resolution at the state encampment in Muncie condemn - ixng Governor McCray for vetoing the proposed Memorial Day bill. The re solution ' will call on all patriotic organizations to support a similar bill in the next session of the legislaturs

Commercial Travelers Meet.

The annual state convention of the United Commereial Travelers will he held in Elkhart Thursday Friday and Saturday. ' Plans will be made for the formation of a league of state organizations to -include Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and lowa. 1

- Ronald Noel 11 year old son of Fred Noel of the C. J. Trubey garage al LaGrange sustained a fracture to his left leg just above the knee and cuts and bruises when caught in an ascending elevator at the Home Grain Co’s mill at LaGrange. i

Eden D. Rupe Warsaw poultry dealer was fined $25 and costs in the mayor’'s court at Goshen for obstructing traffic. He permitted his auto truck to stand in the middle of a business sreet for two hours according to testimony of witnesses. S

Pleasant Weather Passes,

-~ Thep leasant weather of Sunday and Monday gave way Tuesday and Wednesday to a gold drizzling rain. Farmers welcomed the showers of last week but the drenching this week was a little too. much. '

- Miss Elizabeth Holland visiting nurse of Kendallville reports that Noble county now has a waiting list for the Irene Byron sanitorium. Noble county’s quota of 10 is entirely filled. e : o R

First Swimming Fatality.

Thurl W. Girton aged 12 drowned Monday evening while in bathing in the Salamonia river near Portland with a number of other youths. The tragedy occurred at an old swimming hole. 8 s

Terrific Storms in West.

Terrific storms in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas have claimed many lives and destroyed millions of dollars worth of property during the past few days. Hot Springs in the latter named state suffered greatly from floods.

Seek Missing Youth.

The South Bend police have been asked to hunt for Edward Waters 15 years, old son of E. J. Waters proprietor o fthe Orpheum bowling alleys who disappeared last Tuesday during the heavy snow storm.

Forger is Sentenced.

Robert Salto 28, of Chicago who was arrested at South Bend on a charge of forging checks pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one to five years at Michigan City. His wife who was also arrested will be released.

One Killed, One Hurt.

Helen Mewes 18 years old was kilied and William Whitaker 26 was inJured when an automobile in which they were riding crashed into another car and turned over Monday. Both are residents .of Hammond.
