Electric Dogs.

‘'The electric dog that will follow a lantern in the dark—the mechaniecal curlo constructed by John Hays Hammond, Jr~—has a rival in French electric dog that will jump out of its kennel when a whistle sounds. -

The. Hammond dog 18 controlled by selenium cells. The amount of electricity that will pass through selenium varies with the amount of light shinilng on the” metal. With a selenlum cell for each eye of the dog and a small electric gear inside the toy the dog will steer its course so as to have an equal amount of light on each eye, which means that it will keep its head toward any lght. Storage batteries and a motor, or clockwork, may be used for moving the dog. :

Astor’s Aoftfon Appropriate, Vincent Astor .of New York city, a direct descendamt of John Jacob Astor, who founded Astoria, Oregon, as a fur trading post in 1811, wired the Astoria Rellef commission $5,000 for ‘its fire relief fund. Astoria was the first settlement in the Columbla River _valley and was recently swept by a ‘lenctrous fAre. . 0 0

On Sunday May 6 Mr. and Mrs. Vassp Rarick at their beautiful country home near Ligonier gave a:bi}fthday' dinner in horor of their little daughter Madalon Mabel it being her first anniversary. Those present were her grandmother, Mrs. Newton Rarick, her aunt Mrs. Jacob Sheets and cousin. Marjory Buby of Ligonier, Mr, and Mrs. C. M. Sloan son Richard, daughter Janet Sloan, Ralph Sloan wife and baby son Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Klick of Cromwell, Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Sloan South Bend. An elegant dinner was served by hostess. 'The table looking very pretty. Thec enter piece was in design of a star made of green and pink peach blossoms, in the center of the piec was the birthday white with pink decorations. A ping rose with gold leaves holding one tiny pink candle stood in the center. =~ l Madolon was the recipient of several little remembrances. . ;

Guest departed thanking the host and hostess for a very enjoyable time and wishing baby Madolon at lecast eighty more happy birthrays.

Between $4,000 and $5,000 loss was caused by fire which burned a big 60x120 barn at the Albert Munson farm, eight miles southeast of Warsaw. The farm is occupied by Donald Munson. €rossed battery wires are believed to ahve caused the flames. There is about $2,000 insurance.
