Memorial Flowers.

. A beautiful’ custom has been inaugurated in the local Presbyterian church which is apparently growing in favor. Friends remember those who have gone on by bringing flowers to the church on the Sunday nearest the anniversary of their death. These flowers serve to recall the part and especially in the case of faithful church members, do gocd in stirring up remembrance. The beauty of the flowers is enchanced by -the fact that they are memorial. Those who have thus far presented flowers are: Mrs. Stage in memory of her sister Miss 'Nancy Galbreath. Miss Dunning @in memory of her father Louis Dunning and Mrs. J. W. Draper, Mrs. Chas. F. Graham and Lou J. Dunning in memory of ‘their mother, Rosa Belle Dunning. _ . Mrs. Dunning was president of the Sewing Society .for ten years and the fine pipe organ is virtually a memorial of her because’of the strenuous ‘work she did when the fund for its ;purchase was collected. |

Friends at- a distance as well as those in town can arrange for memorial flowers: if they choose and the message which accompanies them will be read from the pulpit. » ' : The One Ton Truck.

~ Predictions made early in the year | that 1923 would see a large increase in use of the one ton truck in both | commercial and agricultural fields are being borne out in sales records of |the Ford Motor Company at Detroit. | -The rapidity with which the one ton Jtruck has come into popularity in delivery and hauling systems is shown ‘Jin recently :compiled figures which disclose that S 0 per cent of all the motor trucks in service in the United | States are one ton or less and indica: tions' are that this high ratio will be materially increased during the present year. The growth has come dur: ling the last six /years during whica 'the one ton truck jumped fff‘om 48 per cent to the 80 per cent mark. . Registration figures as of December 1, 1922, showed the total number of commerical cars and trucks in use in the United States to be in excess of 1,300,000 of which fifty-one per cent wer Fords. :

New Fish Story. : | Charles Price while in the city yes-t terday had a new fish story to tell. While angling in the Elkhart river the other day he noted a wire extending from a deep hole to the bank and he says after pulling on it he dragged out six big suckers. The fish were clinging to the wire by their teeta and the catch was the means of giving a big fish supper to a party of friends. The bite of a sucker or a frog, Mr. Price says is very serious and they should be handled- ‘with gloves. : e ‘ Cost of Living Increased. @ | ‘The cost of living has increased 68.5 per cent in the United States, during the past ten years, Secretary pf Labor Davis announces on the basis of official reports. The increases include: Food, 42 per cent; clothing 74.4: housing, 62.4; fuel and lighting 82.2 furniture 117.4 miscellaneous commodities, 100.3. The lamentable feature is that ;.,he price of labor has not advanced proportionately., e
