Amish farmer who resides in the northwest part of,Kosciusko county was sentenced to the . Jeffersonville prison from 1 to 8 years by Judge L. W. Royse, after he pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing chickens. The complaining witness was John A. Miller an Amish minister who lives near the Stutsman home.: Twenty-three chickens were taken some time ago. Other similar thefts occurred and Stutsman was arrested in Mishawaka Sunday wehre he had taken an auto load of chickens in sacks. ;

Growth of Methodism. ; There were 4,918,194 ' Methodist, Episcopal Sunday school members enrolled in 36,181 Sunday schools at that denomination during 1922 according to report of the Methodist Episcopal Sunday School board just made public. ‘More than 400,000 officers and teachers were engaged in the work among this army of pupils. | Last-year these Sunday schools contributed $1,772,121 to the missionary work of the church the report states This was 88 per cent of the total of $2,000,000 asked of them. Officer Bowen made a quick examinaation but found no one near. Later the bank building was gone over but no' evidence could be found of any tampering. with the windows or doors. : To Meet in Kendallville, The Noble County Council of Religious Education will hold its annual convention at the Presbyterian church in Kendallville May 15 and 16. The organization has been known in the past as :the Noble County Sunday School association. ‘ : Meet With Calamity. When Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jarvis reached their farm near Bristol Monday after a visit in Goshen they found the ashes of their residence and a number of outbuildings. Nothing was saved. J Jacob Haines pioneer and ‘one of Avilla’s highly esteemed residents died Sunday morning at his home fols lowing* an illness of several months, resulting from anemia and complications.
