Ligonier is Invited.

Ligonier grade school and high school pupils have been invited by Indiana university to compete in the first Indiana_state pentathlon to. de ttermine champion athletes of the 'state. 'The contest is patterned after the old Greeék games and is said to be unique. in the history of American athletics in taht it is the first allround athlétic tournament to decide championships among both' boys anc girls by a point system based on win nings: in five different events in whicn the contestants are grouped according to weight classes. ‘ o - The state pentathlon will be held under the auspices of the departmen: .of physical education and the extension division of Indiana university. More than 800 schools over the sta:e Jhave been invited to join in the contests, which will be held in each local ‘school, an dthe total number boys and girls expected to compete runs into Othe thousands. The contest will close May. 4, when reports of local contests are to be submitted to the l athletic department of Indiana uni: versity. 1 :

Visit Uncle George. « While passing through Goshen Tuesday on the way to South Bend to attend a knife and Fork club banquet Fred E. Weir, C. R. Stansbury and W.'C. B. Harrison, called on Uncle George Kinnison at the News-Times office and found the venerable gentleman in his usual happy frame of mind. Mr. Kinnison a former resident of Ligonier will celebrate -the 80th anniversary o fhis birth in June and he is active and hearty. Mrs. Kinnison however is bedfast and will remain so until the end. The Ligonier visitors to South Bend were joined in that city by Dr. Keehn who had been in Chicago. de ; :

The Methodist Christian Advocate has a-pleasant mention of a former Ligonier preacher: b : “North Indiana conference preachers can never forget their home brethren, The Advocate is glad to keep them in touch with old friends. This week, the Rev. Charles L. Deßow writes from Oklahoma City that he has been honored wit hthe invitation to give a week of lectures at the Col lege of Industrial Arts, at Denton. Texas. This is one of the largest colleges for women in the United States. His topics sounded a deeply spiritual note.” (R ok

i Kicked by a Cow. ‘Mrs. Roy Rice over near Albion was painfally injured Monday while milking. The cow kicked her down and trampled on her arm and hand. The bruises . were quite painful and several stitches were taken to close the wounds. : g HNEE

Dies at Albion.

Mrs. Minirva Widup of Columbia City died Tuesday while on a visit at the home of a daughter Mrs. Otto Grant at Albion. She was aged 69 years. e ;

Lydia Monroe residing at the corner of Grand and Second .streets is home after spending the winter with relatives in Fort Wayne. She is in good health and spirits. ’ :

- The remains of Mrs. James 'A. Banta were buried -at Kendallville Tuesday. In addition to the other survivors C. C. Lung of Ligonier, was a nephew, his father John Lung of Wawaka being a brother. | :
