As soon as receipts for the copies have been returned to the secretary of state the governor is authorized to promulgate the acts whereupon they become effective as laws on his pro clamation. -

City Short Engineer.

When Mr. Traxler city civil engineer of Kendallville and .Ligonier, took: unto himself a wife he.decamped and left both cities in the hole. Kendallville secured another from Steuben county but this city has not been so fortunate and as a result there is considerable sewer work here begun under the Traxler administration which remains uninspected. The absence of the engineer leaves the city in an embarrassing position and at the mercy of the contractors. - : It is going to be difficult to get an engineer who can take up the work where Traxted left off and follow it to completion. ‘ i

- Indiana is one of the dryest states in the Union according to a Tepor: compiled by Bert C.. Morgan federal prohibition director for Indiana. . During 1922 Morgan said the Indiana department confiscated 554 stills 6,685 gallons of spirits, 6,545 gallons of malt liquor, 6.280 gallons of wine, 114,398 gallond of mash, 776 ferment ers, made 1,001 arrests and closed fourteen places by injunction. j

Gilbert Sale Draws Big.

Several hundred people participat ed in the sale of the late Mrs. Ema line Gilbert’s household effects last Thursday afternoon. Over 300 articles. were disposed 'of at good prices among them Dbeing many quilts and comforters made by the aged lady in her leisure hours. The sale was conducted by 8. C. Sackett and F. P. Bothwell, executors of the Gilbert estate. . ' ; ‘

The city of Garrett is advertising for a community nurse to be paid out of the municipal funds. The action is prompted by the Chamber of commerce.
