Very Narrow Esecape.

Three Ligonier ladies the other dayl had a very narrow escape from a,tragic death at the Pigeon steret crossing of the N. Y. C. railway when the car in which they were riding skidded on the ice and stopped in front of a fast approaching train. The car was being driven by Mrs. wWill® H. Green and she kept a level head and saved her own life as well as that of the Misses Hallie Goshorn and Eva Cook, her companions. The car had barely cleared the tracks when the ‘engine' with a string of cars whizded by. L ; t The engineer of the locomotive saw the impending accident shut off steam and buried his head in his arms to shut out the sight. The passen gers in the automobile were .prostrated with fright but Mrs. Green never losts her presence of mind showing remarkable nerve.

Good Swine Meeting at Albion

The Big Tpe Poland Association of Noble County held an enthusiastic meetilig at the County Agents’-office Friddy February 2nd. Breeders spoke encouragingly of tihe prospeets for better prices in store for the farmer who breeds better stock. To bring about a keener interest in the affairs of the association it was decided to extend the privilege of membership generally to the farmers at a reduced entrance fee, ; . Boys and Girls Piig Clubs engaged considerable attention and the Association decided to make them ‘bigger and better than ever, then umber of pigs that they distribute is to be decided afer the applications are returned by a committee of three assoeiation membhers. . .

Hurt in Ball Game.

- During a basketball game at Wawaka between a local team and one from Churubusco Toney . Geiger one of the visiting players was probably permanently injured in a skirmish with ‘one of his @ssociate players. The lad suffered. a: bad fracture of the spine and has since been- paralyzed from his waist down. Wawaka ang Albion physicians could not render relief and the injured boy was rushed to his home. His agony was intense.

MeCray is Sustained.

By a. close party vote of 47 republicans. to 46 democrats the demand of Gov. McCray for an appropriation of two million dollars for the Indiana new reformatory at ‘Pendleton was sustained along with the general ap: propriation bill of sixteen millions of doliars. The democrdts made an ef fort to -cut the reformatory appropriation to three .quarters of a million but failed. The measure now goes to the senate, 358 .

Girl Goes South.

. Miss Cecil Wood 23 bookkeeper for the South Bend' Spring Wagon company was sentenced to the Indiana woman’s prison at Indianapolis for from two to 14 years in her home city. She- was charged with having ' embezzled $13,000. She entered a plea of ugilty hoping to receive a suspended sentence. s

: Overcome By Fumes. ; John Kreider of Elkhart was in a serious condition for mdre than an hour Saturday night when he was overcome by carbon monoxide fumes from his automobile while filling the radiator of the car in the garage at his home. His wife found him prostrate on the floor.
