' : "« Mrs. Harry Green in charge of the work in Ligonier called to her assistance such hustlérs as John Slutz and a number of others. equally as good.. - Chairman Trombold has ‘sent all captains a special letter of thanks for their efforts in putting the- drive across to a sucessful conclusion. Over fifty per cent of the money raised in the county will remain here for local work. . But 50 cents of the §! membership fee goes to the Nationa: Red Cross society. Mysterious Death
Roland Scott 16 son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scott of Peru was found fatally’ injured on the Broadway bridge there by Charles Kunkle a farmer who was coming to Peru. It is believed that the *hoy was struck and dragged by an automobile. His ¢ap was found 400 feet sofith of the bridge. The youth died - before he was removed. i ‘

FOUND DEAD IN BED
Mrs Catherine Keener - Living Alone Died Some time Wednesday Night oi Heart or Lung Trouble.
' Mrs. Catherine Keener aged 73 years was found dead in bed at her }home' four miles north and west of Churubusco in, Noble county Thursday evening, by her nephew, Adam Barcus a Churusbuco mail. earrier. She ‘had been making her home alone ‘but Mr. Barcus went out often tv locok dfter her. He went out ‘Thursday evening to get in’ some wood for her and when he arrived at the'home, was stunne dto find his aunt dead im bed. Hvidence was that the end had come peacefully, there being néo gign cf a struggle.| tis thought death occurred some time during Wednesday night, and it is believed to have been due to apoplexy or Ilung trouble. Coroner Frurip of Kendallville was called and stated that death.was due fo one.of these causes. The deceased was born :in Noble county in 1849. - - :
Hurt in Bus Tumble.
- Four persons were injured mnone ’sériously when the eastbound bus of the Elkhart-South Bend Motor Bus company turned over on its side in the Gitch on the Lincoln- hiyhway three riiles west of Elkhart Thursday afternoon. Eight other persons in the them achine eScaped injury. Those hurt were: W. D. Kobey, of Chicago, fractured rib on his right side; -Alvin Matz of Chicago two deep tw-inch cut in his forehead; and Miss Helen Kilnier and Miss Mildred Burgess, both ct Elkhart slight cuts to ‘their hands. ~ Township Assesors to Meet. - A meéting of township ' assessors and their assistants of Noble county vill be held at Albion next Wednesday February 7. Newton ‘W. Gilbert, formerly of Angola after ‘holding 4 ‘number of offices in Indiana the United States and the Philipines finally located in New York and now word comes that his residence there was robbed the other night of jewelry and other -valuables to the amount of $25,000. This is a good deal of junk to gather up. Gilbert is’ well known in Ligonier.,

His whole left side is involved and his condition is serious. ‘Mr. Loeser returned a few days ago from attending the funeral of his brother Ferd and had been greatly depressed. Mr. Loeser is one of the old and prominent business men of Ligonier and his many friends will hope for his speedy recovery.

At the meeting of the Elkhart town ship Fair Association it was decided not to hold a fair next season but if possible plan for a great Home coming event instead.
