There was carried over form 1921 and which was completed during this last season, contracts. for 17.022 miles of concrete pavement and 34.638 miles of grading and structure work .all of which was completed during this last season. : 0 1t is the desire of the commisgion to contract approximately 110 miles of ri gid type pavement in 1923 approximately fifty miles of which is already let. 3 ;

Some New Bills,

- Bills: have been introduced in the Indiana legislature to ' abolish the public service and oil in'spectipn_commissions. Also to fix a tax of 2 cents a gallon on gasolene which would raise a revenue of $3,000,000 a year. Another measure provides for the doubling 'of automobile licenses which it is estimated would yield $6,000,000. ' The $9,000,000 thus raised by the measures woull be turned over for the use of the highway commission for the maintenance and and improvement of state highways. : - M. E. Church Benevolent Fund. -M. E. church officials have called on the different organizations for $lB,500,000 for benevolent purposes in the year 1924. . For the last four years the Methodist Episcopal church has been carrying on a centenary benevolent program in celebration of 100 years of mission work. Under this program the denomination has given an average of $15,000,000 a year to benevolent purposes. e

Children Are Divided.

Tuesday in the Noble circuit court two divorces were granted Vera D. Fisel was granted a decree from Carl Fisel and given custody of her son, aged 2. The father is given the custody of the daughter aged 4. Beulla Broekers was granted a divorce from Martin Broekers. The Fisels reside in Ligonier and -the Broekers in Kendallville. =

Court Adjourns Saturday.

' The January term of the Noble eircuit court will adjourn Saturday. The first jury trial for the term came up Tuesday. It was Clingerman vs Hartsock, claim in an estate Wrigley, for the plaintiff and Grant & Foote for the estate. . T

Motor Vehicle Owners Hit.

There are over 400,000 motor vehicle owners in Indiana who will be hit if the bills placing a 2-cent tax ‘per gallon on gasolene and the doubling of the license fees if the measures become laws. - ; -

Basketball Scores.

Larwill team basketball was defeated by Wawaka last Friday evening 27 to 11. Wolf Lake plays in the Elkhart township town tomorrow evening and a different story "may be heard. e {

Missionary Dies.

Dr. James F. Garvin for 36 years a Presbyterian missionary in Valparai--80, Chile is dead. He was born in Kendallville about 60 years ago. ;
