41 Thousands of persons in Indiana are now afflicted with the grip and in- | fluenza, according to reports from sevferal cities. At Indianapolis between 40,000 and 50,000 residents are sufferihg from various forms of respiratory infection, according to Dr. Herman G. Morgan secretary of the board of health of that city.‘Dr. Morgan says the wave of influenza now differs from that of a few years ago, when many deaths resulted in that pneumonia is not prevalent in so many cases. “The form of influerza from which many persons are now suffering -is not fatal nor should be the cause of alarm,.if ordinary car_el‘ is used,” he said.“ A person con? tracting the influenza or a severe cold or sore throat should go to bhed immediately and. summon medical aid. It is dangerous for a person in the early stages of an attack of influenza to attempt to go about his daily work. The sudden changes in the weather conditions are responsible largely for the epidemic.” _ There are a few cases of the malady in Ligonier and persons recovering from the disease are warned tc have a care about taking cold as pneumonia in many instances develops.
