Mrs. Sanger Smith entertained several ladies at her-cottage at Wawasee last Wednesday in honor of Mrs, Frances Flannellee of QOakland, Cal., who is spending several weeks at the home of G. R. Coburn. S
Mr. and Mrs, Clarence Wemple and daughter Louise were called to Kendallville Monday evening by the ‘death of John C. Butz, aged 59, abrother of Mrs. Wemple. . Death was due (to pneumonia which developed from a bad cold or summer flu. i - The decedent the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Butz was bern May 5, 1863 .in York township, where he had always made his home until going to Kendallville. He engaged in farming at the old Butz homestead and in recent years had made his home with his sister, Miss Minnie Butz. Mr. Butz was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran church of that city. :
Surviving are five sisters and three brothers .including, Miss Minnie Butz, Mrs. George Hoffman, Mrs. T. W. Shaffer, Fred D. Butz, of Kendallville Ulric Butz and William Butz of York township; Mrs. John Shisler of Kimmel; Mrs. Lena Wemple of Ligonier. ‘The funeral. was held Wednesday afternoon with short services from the house at 1:30 p. m. and the funeral proper at 2 o'clock. -Burial Wright's cemetery near Albion. '

Miss Lela Brill daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Brill of Old Orchard farm Elkhart township will represent Noble county at the laying of the corner stone of the James A Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Saturday afternoon October 7. She will place Noble county’s memorial in the corner stone angd the part in the ceremony i 8 regarded as a special honor to the young lady, who was appointed by the county board of education unsolicited.
Dr. Walter Jahr, 36 former resident of Fort Wayne who spent many of his summer outings at Rome City, where he made a large circle of friends, died Sunday morning at Toronto, Ontario according to word received.: - | ! .
