Burned in Gas Explosion. T. E. Burnside stock saleman for the Bryan Harvester company - of Peru was brought to the Burnside cottage at Esterline landing Tri-lake, suffering from severe burns about the face , arms and hands resulting from an explosion of his steamer with which he was working in a garage. Burning gasoline was thrown all over Burnside, whose face is one mass of blisters a deep gash also having been secared into the right arm. The explosion blew off the top of the car and rendered the machine practically useless. :

- Ford Gets Worst of It. o 1 A Ford touring car owned and driven by Charles McConnel of Columbia City was *badly damaged Sunday evening when it collided at the Benton bridge with a Chevrolet touring car owned by P. G. Williams of Goshen. ; ’ o < Medical Examination. Medical examination of Ligonier school pupils will begin Friday under direction of Dr. Blacki Many of the pupils with bad tonsils and adnoids will undergo operations and defective sight will be remedied by spectacles. - ' o ‘ Peach Prices Drop. Gold Drop peaches were sold by Michigan dealers on the streets of Ligonier this week at $1.50 the bushel with an additional charge of 15 cents for the basket. e 47 Entombed Minors Dead. Forty-seven minors of the Argonaut gold mine in California entombed August 28 all died the same day is the belief of the rescuers who found the dead bodies Tuesday after 'digging diligently for three weeks.

Mammoth Vegetable. Mrs. D. M. Rench has presented the Banner with the largest sweet potato probably ever grown in the county, the monster vegetable weighing seven pounds. It was produced on the Rench lot on the North Side.
