Kalamazoo Auto Races.

Sunday is the date set for the big 100-mile auto race on the Recreation park track. Kalamazoo. Thirty of the fastest drivers have -entered and ten of them—the fastest of the lot—will start in the century grind for $5,000 in prize money. It is the biggest auto race in 'theé west outside-of the Indianapolis 500-mile event angd thousands of people . from Michigan and points in Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio will attend. Chicago, Indianapolis, Toledo and Detroit newspapers have reserved special space for their staff of writers who will be sent there to cover this big sport event. -

Bundle Day August 8.

Remember, Bundle -Day in Ligonier and surrounding townships is Tuesday August 8, when contributions of used clothing will be made for the destitute ‘in the Bible Lands or the Near East.. Many will desire to give worn garments for this worthy” cause and they should send the articles to city hall or notify Miss Jessie Decker who has charge of the humane work. Mrs. Clair Weir writing from College Camp, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin where she, Mrs. Leila Smith and Miss Wilena Wigton are attending a Y. W. C. A school of instruction says there are 144 students there taking the instructions, coming from all parts of the United States ; : '

Will Gravel Pancake Road.

Grading on the Pancake road in Elkhart township. is about eompleted. The contract for placing the gravel has been let to John H. Grisamer and Harry Dickinson of this city and the work of surfacing the highway will be rushed. : :

Dr. Shobe’s promising pacing colt starts in the 2:30 race at Decatur, Indiana today and will be driven by Harry Clemens. - The animal has been showing ‘wonderful speed for its training. .

Elkhart Twp. Chib ‘Meeting.

The next regular meeting of the Elkhart Township Home Economics club is scheduled for August 21 at the Cosperville public hall. Miss Grace Spurgeon is leader in discussing “History of ' Dyes and Their Possibilities.” Mrs. Tressa Gerver is leader for the meeting. Responses will be made on “Give One Short Cut in Sewing Which You Have Found Helpful.’’ Mesdames Minnie Gibson, Marjory Poppy, Jane Rathke and Griselda Hall will discuss ‘“Cost of Home-Made Garments Against Ready-Made.” Mrs. Retta Rimmel will make the announcement of the home tour. ‘At a well attended meeting in Albion Tuesday _evening representatives of township farm bureaus decided to appoint a purchasing or marketing agent for the cgunty. A committee of three headed by John E. Panacke was appointed to recommend a selection for the place and the election of the representative .will be voted on at a later meeting. The attendance was good and much interest in the subject manifested. W. A. Cochran and Fred H. Green were present from Perry township. ;

Labor Day Celebration.

Now that Cromwell has given up her usual celebration of Laber Day, September 4 on account of street improvements in that town a movement: is on foot to celebrate the oeccasion with a big home coming and picnic at Freed Park, Ligonier. The matter will be brought before tht Chamber of Commerce at a meeting next Wednesday noon. :

Sudden Death at Kendallville

Miss ‘Anna Amelia Spatz age -46 years daughter of the late Martin Spatz and wife and lifelong resident of Noble county died at the family homestead five miles north of Kendallville Monday night. Death was due to an affection of the heart resulting from inflamatory rheumatism. {

Death of Ed. Tumbleson.

‘Edward Tumbleson farmer aged 35 years who resided with his father near Wolf aLke died Sunday morning of tuberculosis. Besides the father a son and daughter survive the latter residing in Cleveland, Ohio. .

Killed in Auto Accident.

Mrs: E. M. Taylor aged 63 a widow who had been mother of seventeen children eleven of whom survive died from injuries received in an automobile accident at Fort Wayne Tuesday.

Big Bond Issue.

In order to improve eight: roads the commissioners of Elkhart county will issue and sell bonds in the sum of $490,000.
