Ten Men Are Injured.

.Six men were severly injured and four others were badly brufsed when a county highway maintenance truck in St. Joseph county over turned seven miles southwest of South Bend Thursday morning. . The injured men are A C. Hoover, driver of the: truck,, Edward Egly, Harry Witwer, Frank Van Vlasseler, Floyd Hatfield, Anthony Varro, Lawrence Stief, Jay Whiteman Fred Seifer, and F. Jackson all of South Bend and Mishawaka. ' The driver had turned . the truck suddenly to avoid striking a car and the -machine 'went into the. ditch and over turned throwing out the ten men.

Have Pleasant Meeting.

The Perry Township Girls Club m’et‘ Thursday afternoon with Mrs, James Simpson and enjoyed a delightful time with games and music. and the usual diversions, There are 20 members of the club and;all but three-were present. A big picnic at Buttermilk Point is planned for the first Thursday in July which will be the 6th. Mrs. Ruth Smith is the club leader. The organization expects a season of great enjoyment.

Have Narrow Escape.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Beane, Robert Hudson and J. F. Frankenstein of Goshen came near being killed when the automobile in which they were riding in Elkhart struck a street car and derailed it. None of the passengers were seriously injured but the big machine owned and driven by Mr. Hudson was badly wrecked. -

L . = e Mr. Miller says he bought a sedan car in 1920 and has driven it over 7,000 miles and the tires used were on the car when he purchased it and they show very little wear:

Forty One Times.- A Samuel Gompers has been chosen head of the American Federation of labor . for the 41st timé. The old man ‘in his forty years of service has done much to elevate the tone of the organization and keep it along safe lines, He has had bitter enemies who have fought him bitterly but fortunately he has been able to . triumph over them. Gompers is a real patriot. . Uses Ball Bat on Woman,! - ~ Shirley Clayton of Milford a baseball player was arrested onh an affidavit filed by Ester M. Brown of Syracuse who charges ‘that he struck her on the mouth with a baseball bat during a dispute at the Milford-Syra-cuse baseball game at Milford Sunday. Lo ‘ : Mrs. Eliza Fear aged 90 years passed away at the Kosciusko county infirmary.. She had been in failing health for the past number of years suffering with old age and complications of diseases, which was the cause of her death. The deceased is survived by three children. :

At that time the Odd KFellows will effect an Odd Fellow Park association through which it is proposed to purchase a 25-acre tract of land now owned by Simon Bell of Syracuse. If the land is not purcashed outright it probably will be leased for a term of 99 years., s S : _

- After The Bakers, = ‘ Five suits on note were filed against Clinton Baker and others in the circuit -court Friday morning. The Citizens Bank of Ligonier, asks $lOO and the State Bank of Syracuse in four suits against Baker asks for $7OO $lOO, $5O, and $3,600. Another Offense Charged.

The burglary of the Homer Grant department store at Coloma, Mich., last Friday .night has been charged to the Dodd-Fluckey gang of Soutlt Bend, five members of wihch are now in the Kosciusko county jail, awaiting trial for robbing the Wingard clothing store at Syracuse. At Coloma the youths took a 400. pound safe, containing $250 and after breaking it open, abandoned it near Lawrence, Mich. -
