Candidates Expenses Aeccounts. The total expense accounts of all candidates in the May primary according to a report made by County Clerk Isaac Deter aggregated $1,044.44 The largest amount spent by any one candidate was filed by Fred J. Goke of Kendallville . candidate . for the nomination of county auditor on the republican ticket. Goke spent $124.51 in his efforts to secure the nomination ‘Whike aHrrys S. New candidate for United States senator was econd with an expense account of $117.01. The expense accounts of other candidates not previously reported are: Gerry DeHoff of auditor, $46.17; B. FE. Haines for state representative $45.60; William Hoffman for sheriff $40.10; A. J. Stackhouse for state: representative $36.89; I. M. Canzier for sheriff $35.60 G. 'S. Rimmel for treasurer $28.44 L. B. Damand for treasurer $27.29; J. H. Hoffman for state - representative $29.68. . , , - Some Record Berries, _ Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Deter have a strawberry patch on their North ‘Side lot which has yielded a prolific crop of the finest berries seen this year grown on city ground. The ‘patch is 20x30 and Mr| Deeter has-al-ready picked two bushels of the luecjous f{ruit and the crop is no where near exhausted: Mr. Deter presented the Banner with a generous sample of his product. ; ) Strawberries are retailing in Warsaw at 10 cents the quart with litlte demand for them. 1 oo

o . Compton Trial On. - - _"The trial of 0. K. Compton of Elkhart formerly of Ligonier and Charles Gage of Elkhart Township charged with burglary in connection with the robbery of a store at Etna Green in the month of May, was booked to come up in the Koseiusko circuit court at 'Warsaw yesterday. = Three 'ot' Compton’s companions are already serving time for their connection with ‘the affair. Compton claims he was holding the men at his farm near Elk‘hart to ‘claim the $l,OOO ‘reward offered- by a bankers insurance com‘pany claiming his convicted associates lpulled off the Wawaka robbery 'in which $1,500 was taken, ' (age aged 17 a brother-in-law of Compton it is alleged had nothing to do with the robberies and happened to be at the Compton farm on a visit when the arrests were made. He has '‘been out on bond. P
Miss Leah accomplished daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Summers and an employee of the Straus Brothers company and Ray Shell one of the city’s best young men were united in marriage at 10:00. o’clock Tuesday morning at the Catholic parsonage in Kendallville. ~ The nuptials were marked by their simplicity and after thg ceremony pronounced by Rev. Father Halpin the newly»yeds‘returned to iLgonier where they will make their future home. Constractor Compton will bégin the work of remodeling the Christian church edifice at once. The contract was signed Monday night by the building committee and Mr. Compton and the work is to be pushed with all possible speed. Edward J. Kappel was fined $5 and costs on a grand jury indictment in the Noble circuit court last Monday on a charge of public intoxication. Kappell operates a grocery store 'in Rome City and }l9 is accused of an attempt to rid his town of preachers.

Albert Hirshman of Elkhart was fined $l3O and given 30 days at the penal farm on conviction in.the superior court' there of violating the liquor laws. An effort is being made in that city to stop the,illegal manufacture and sale of moonshine.

State warden arrested 102 persons during the last 30 days. This entire number was convicted of violating the state’s fish and game laws and paid fines and costs aggregating $2,654.85.
