For the first time in two years LaGrange county has a grand ‘jury.at work. An indictment was refurned against Walter Gage charged with operating an awtomobile while intoxicated. o R

~Glenn Rimmell, democratic candidate for county treasurer, was in the city calling on old friends. Mr. Rimmell is ‘a_progressive farmer and stockman and makes a strong appeal to the voters. :

By the nomination of Gifford Pinchot for governor of Pennsylvania and Albert J. Beveridge for U. S. senator in Indiana the women voters seem to have shown a disposition to purify the republican party. e

The local W. C. T .U. held a public meeting at the Presbyterian church. A picnic supper was served in the dining room, after which a fine program was rendered consisting of songs readings and papers appropriate for the occasion. = :

Indentify Wawaka Robbers.

Two of the men convicted at Warsaw for burglary have been postively- identified by Earl Schwab, 14, of Wawaka, as having taken part in the Wawaka bank holdup. The lad and his mother, suspecting a holdup, rushed from their home at the tinie of the robbery. Their home adjoined the bank. The boy was.armed with a gun and covered the driver of the waiting auto ‘belonging to the bandits. The driver talked with the lad éfld convinced him that he was not a robber. During . their conversation another member of the band slipped out of theb ank and felled the boy. It is understood the bank lost $1,500.

Hold Big Farmer Meet.

Many farmers and their wives were present at the Farm Bureau meeting held at Commu_x:(}ty Hall, Cosperville, Chairman John E. Pan. cake presided. Wool pooling and a demonstration of blanket making by Glenn Rimmell were among the interesting features of the meeting. The Woman’s Division met at the same time with Miss Grace Spurgeon presiding. : o :

Gets Heavy Dose.

~William Keeth, an- Elkhart eafe owner, was fined $250 and sent to the penal farm for four months by the Elkhart superior court on conviction of violating the prohibition law. His place of business may be declared a nuisance and closed permanently.

i Big Cattle Shipment. John H. Green shipped eighty-three head of Hereford steers , the latter part of last week to Swift & Co., Chicago packers for export. The cattle weighed 1,537 a head or a total of 126,580 pounds. ' Five cars were required to transport the cattle to market. The price received for the stock was a fancy one. ;

Chance for a Boy.

® The Demoerat says Capt.. Albert Black -of Albion ,has received notice that one boy from this dictrict will be admitted to Camp Knox, training camp, in Kentucky. The government furnishes all transportation and other expenses and furnishes uniforms. [

Goes to Insane Hospital.

. Howard Foehl, of Kendallville, who was recently adjudged insane was taken to the Eastern hospital at Richmond ' Thursday for - treatment. He has been ill for several months and many of the foremost specialists in the country have been consulted relative to his condition. :

Killed in Arkansas.

-Ira Culp, who until three years ago resided on a farm north of Ligonier in LaGrange county, was killed the other day presumably by his colored help .on his plantation in Arkansas and his buildings were burned. Details of the erime have not yet been received. :
