To Fight Chinch Bugs.:

Farmers of Noble county are experiencing trouble with chinch bugs this year and every precaution is being taken to check the progress of the pests which have done thousands of‘dollgrs of damage to the wheat and corn the pdst few years. B. V. Widney, of <Albion county agricultural agent stated the presence of the bugs have been noticed in every township'in the county and are laying eggs in the wheat, . Creosote is ‘practically the only preventative from keeping the bugs. from. the corn and farmers are warned to provide themselves with the oil if they find bugs in their field. ;

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Thompson and Oren Chapman of Ligonier spent Sunday afternoon in the John Murphy home. ST e - Elmer Peffer, wife and babe spent Sunday afternoon in, Ligonier visiting in the Frank Bortner home.

Institute is Interesting.

‘The Sunday school institute of Goshen district of M. E. church proved very interesting. The Institute was held in thise ity Thursday afternoon and evening with Rev. G. F. Hubbartt of aLGrange formerly of this city in charge. Miss Clark who was on the program gave bible stories and very engaging talks. The address of Mr. Albright was highly enjoyed. Ow-, ing to unfavorable weather the attendance was not large, the greater number assembling for the evening session. A like institute was held at Kendallville Friday. . ' ;

Y. W. C. A. Meeting.

An important Y.”W. C. A. meeting opened at the Presbyterian church in “thisc ity at three o’clock this afternoon and a second session will be held this evening at the same place. The women of the city including the special committee named will be present and listen to instructions from the state secretary of the Y. W. In the evening the boys and girls with their friends will be present to participate inthe’ Christian Association work. The meetings are important ones for both organizations.

‘Another State Road.

The state highway commission is considering the taking into the state highway system the Tip Top Trail This road runs from Warren to Huntington, Columbia City, Albion, LaGrange and thence tq the state line and connects the north part of the state with the Wabash valley besides forming a traffic outlet from northeastern Indiana to the “state capital.

Editor’s Wife Quits Him. - Loretta Eldridge was granted a diyorce from H. O. Eldridge on the grounds of incompatibility by the LaGrange circuit court. The parties were married 25 years ago. The defehdant is a well-known newspaper man having published newspapers at Middlebury and LaGrange and also at Sturgis, Mich. For nearly five years he acted as postmaster at L_aGrgngé.

‘Another Lightning Vietim. . Clarence H. Paige residing south of Columbia City was struck by lightning' Thursday noon while working on a tractor on the Malissa Goble farm near Laud. An assistant Jeff Claston of Dunfee was stunned. Both were hurled to the gréund. Paige suffered paralysis of the right side. Jack, the Peeper. - . A Jack the Peeper has been operating in the southeastern part of the city. and he has been recognized as a resident of the country. Should he repeat the offense he will be roughly manhandled by indignant house holders. s o

This is Poppy Week, This is poppy week and the occasion will be observed by the Ameican Legion and Auxiliary organizations in Indiana. Poppies will be sold on the streets for the benefit of the boys whog fought in the World war.

Aged Couple Married. i William H. Dunifom, 78, and Mary Mawbey, 81, both of Elkhart, ‘'were matried at Goshen Thursday.

From June 14 to August 30 all retail business and the banks at Goshen will close each Wednesday afternoon, taking a half-day holiday.,
