Strange Prank of Goshen Woman

An unknown aged Goshen woman has twice attempted suicide by standing on the New York Central tracks near the station with a fast freight thundering down on her. The other nght she walked to the center of the rails and stood with her arms outgtretched facing thel oncoming train. She was saved from death however when the engineer suddenly noticed her and quickly applied the brakes. He led her away and resumed his rTun, - ' :

With the incident still in his mind on making the same run Friday night he watched for the woman and saw her on 'the tracks. The train was stopped just in time. The engineer led her to a nearby residence and phoned for the police. However while he was talking she disappeared. A thorough search of the neighborhood was unavailing. Apparqn;ly no one seems to know who she is, ;

Albert E. Robert of New York City will be thep rincipal speaker at the fourth annual convention of the Noble county Y. M. C. A. to be held at the Community Builglng Kendallville next 'Thursday evening April 27. A new board of directors are to be chosen. ;

Dinner will be served by the ladies of the M. E. church. The board of directors of the association that has served during the past year include Archy Campbell, A R. Otis, Otis Nelson, Geo. Steckley, Lin ford Diggins and H. M. Dixon of Kendallville, William A. Cochran, S. P. Straus, C. R. Stansbury, F. P. Both well and O. M. Craig Ligonier, J. W. Morr, A. A. Barnum, L. H. Wrigley Albion, Hugh Chapman, Rome City. H. M. Way, Wawaka, E. E. Kline and Malvin Seymoure, Cromwell John N. De Camp Avilla. The Home Economics Club met at the Library Friday afternoon with about eighteen ladies present. The members responded to roll call by giving some favorite de.vise‘_gr meth%d in house cleaning. Mrs. J. N. Deénny gave on interesting talk on “Housecleaning, Past . and ' Present.” One_dress form was made. This work will be continued if the members wish it. The next meeting will be a demonstration at the H. S. buildjing. The subject for the afternoon will be “Spring Renovators” or those foods such- /as spinach, ‘lettuce, Swiss chard, adndelion greens, rheubarb ete., that serve as a tonic to the system.

Kicked by Horse. - G. W. Slusser of,th‘is city while handling a team on the Christian Mochel farm last Friday was kicked in the back by one of the horses. The kick was aimed at another horse by the animal and caught Mr. Slusser square in the back with both feet. He | was knocked down and seriously hurt although he did not consult a prysician. The gentleman suffered much pain and moves about with great difficulty, = 0

The Misses Katherine Wood and Helen Thomas arrived from Chicago Friday evening for a visit with Miss Wood’s father Wilbur W. Wood and family and other relatives.” Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Wood gave a family dinner in compliment to the visitors. Among the guests were Messrs, and Mesdames James Kinnison;W. W. Wood and W. H. Bender. The affair was a most happy one.

The Sary Ann Club was most uniquely and charmingly entertained by Mrs, Nona Sackett at her home Friday evening.' “Ye olden time?” idea was very cleverly carried out ‘which afforded much amusement. The commencement exercises for the 7th and Bth grades of the Elkhart township conso@ated school will be held at the North School Friday May 5. A fine program has been arranged for the occasion. Harold Sorgenfrei is the school principal.
