Bids Lower For Federal Aid Roads.
Federal aid highway constructioa is much chéaper this year than last. Bids already received indicate this. ~ Grading has heen bid at 20, 23% and 30 cents a cubic yard in Missouri Arkansas, and Minnesota respectively as compared with an average of] 35 cents fer the section in which these States are located in 1921. . : Prices of reinforcing steel in place range around 6 cents as compared with the 1921 price of 8 or 9 cents and bridge steel @% 4% cents against 7 to~B cents. - Afew bids for the Pest grade of concrete of about $l7 a cubic yard have been received in sections where the 1921 price was about $25 a cubic yard, - s - Prices bid for the construction of ‘cpncerete roads per squane are as follows: Ohio $1.52, Colorado $2.27 and Georgia $1.38 as compared with an average for the whole country during the period 1916-1920 0f.52,67 a square yard. : : :

Citizens Bank of this city purchased the Nye and Loy road bonds against a big crowd of bidders. The Mier bank secured the Pancake road bonds. The Nye bonds sold for $45,600 and the Loy bond brought 28,160. The Pancake road sale went at 18,080

Meets With Foul Play.
Lying face down with'a deep wound in the back o fhis head and a police--‘ man’s club strapped-to his wrist, Earl Shull age 32 years B. and O. patrolman residing in Garrett was found dead Monday morning about 1:30 o'clock five miles southwest of Bremen on the Baltimore and Ohio railroad tracks. hTe death of Shull has developed a mystery for authorities to solve as it is not known whether he met death accidentally or by foul play. : 5 Shull was guarding freight on the trains against theft and it is believed he fell a victim to thugs. . ;
Home Economies Conference,
A Home Economics Conference will, be held in Goshen Friday and Saturday which will be attended by delegates from Ligonier, Kendallville, Albion and ‘many other towns and cities of the state. An elaborate program has been arranged, There will bé classes in dress making, general science, house planming house hold arts, home nursing, household physics and other subjects. : Friday noon a cafateria lunch will be served and a dinner in the evening. : | Many prominent workers are down for addresses. Yeager Operation. ; : Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Yeager were accompanied to an Elkhart hospital Monday by Mrs. William Kunce where Mr. Yeager was operated on to relieve him from an ahcess of the frontal sinus. Drs. Randolph and Hoover performed the operation which is pronounced successful and Mr. Yeager will be home in a few days. v o n # The gentleman first became ill of flu which later developed into pneumonia and he suffered greatly last week from the affection in his head.
Badly Injured in Wreck,
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thomas of Goshen were badly hurt near New Paris Monday on the Dixie Highway when their Ford truck turned over in a. ditch., Mrs. Thomas suffered a bad fracture of a thigh bone. Mrs: Thomas claims in order to escape a collision with a car in which DeVon Fetters and Preston Klinger Milford youths were riding he was forced off the road. The truck was wrecked.

Insurance Paid.
J. H. Hoffman received a check fyom the' Insurance Company of Pennsylvania in the sum of $420.45 and turned it over to Gordon Warstler to meet the loss by fire on the Warstler, residence ten days ago. The check arrived Monday. :

Charles child of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Price of Fort Wayne aged a year and a half fell from a third story window of their home striking the side walk below. It is believed the child is not fatally hurt. : : L
