An Indignapolis woman who recently re-established her home in the city after living several years in California advertised some 'household goods for sale in a California paper. Among the callers at her home was a woman whose husband waited outside in an automobile. The woman wished some ‘furniture that could be used in a ranch house, but when she found that such articles were not among those offered’ for sale, she seenfed reluctant to leave, although her husband honked impatiently at the auto horn, . - . ' Finally the wvisitor said: “There is something about you that makes me think you are a Hoosier.” : “I am,” came the reply. “My home is in Indianapolis.” d “Well, I am from Indianapolis, too,” said the visitor. ; In the meantime the +husband ceased to honk the auto horn. What he did was to enter the house and gently but firmly remind his wife that it was getting late and that they ‘should be on their-way home—lndianapolis News. : ‘
A profesfor of chemistry at Columbia says that Sir Ernest Ruther= ford has bombarded nitrogen gas with the alpha rays of radium, thereby producing an explosion, the foree and velocity of which is sufficient to send these helium atoms around the world in less than a second. This energy is millions 'c}t times ‘greater than that generated by any chemical reactions, such as the combustion of coal.. It is claimed that if these effects can be both intensified and controlled, we shall’ then have at our disposal an almost illimitable supply of power Which will entirely transcend anyi thing hitherto known. :
A little girl went to the desk of the Brightwood branch library and asked politely for “red-hot buns.” She was directed to’the nearest bakery when ‘she said: “It }en’t something to eat, it’s a book I want for my mamma,” Then the librarian sent her mother ‘Grace Richmond’s “Red Pepper Burns.” —lndianapolis News.. ‘ et
