Mr. Wilson Optimistic.

Former President Wilson in writing to Claude G. Bowers of Fort Wayne in response to a message from the democratic editors of Indiana, says: - : : e : “My Dear Mr. Bowers: ~ “Few messages have 8o cheered and ‘heartened me ag that conveyed by your letter of February 18. : “It is very udelightful to be associated with such a fighting and for-ward-looking force as the Democrats of Indiana. I wish I had the opportunity to assure them of my confidence that the time is just a t hand when the party will haye an opportunity to serve the country in more ample measure, and with more lasting benefit than ever before. i . “When you have the .opp, ortunityj please convey my warmest gre_etingsi to the Democratc editors, for whom your letter speaks, and !believe me, with the most cordial good wishes to yourself, Faithfully and militantly, Your Fellow-Demrocrat, ' e “WOODROW WILSON"..

Desire High Valuation.

The representative of the state tax board who addressed the township assessors and their deputies in Albion ast Saturday insisted upon a high valu ation of property and attempted to show that all property should be assessed- at its real cash -value, and that value should be regulated by rules laid down by him. g . The object of the state is to secure a high valuation so that the tax rate may be kept down. And a high valuation means more tax money for the state. ~ : The' Indianapolis gentleman attempted to frighten the assessors into putting a high wvalue on real estate and warned against a change in the appraisal of improvements on the farm. He is of the opinion that town and city improvements had appreciated in value in the last three years. - Assessor J. T. Latta and his assitants G. M. Zimmerman and W. H. ‘Bender are gentlemen of sound judg‘ment whose knowledge of Ligonier and Perry township values is far superior to that of an outsider and they will perform their official duties accoding to thel aws governing. There can be no doubt but that farm lands have greatly depreciated in value since the last appraisement.
