DR. F. R. ELDRED HONORED Chemical Society Gives Farewell Dinner at University Club. | A farewell dinner to Dr. F. R. Eldred for more than twenty years chief of the scientific division of the Eli Lily & Co., who has resigned to beceme head of his own company at New York was given by members of the Indiana division of the American Chemical Society at the University Club Monday evening. Dr. Eldred will become president of Eldred & Atkinson,. Inc., consulfing chemists and engineers, of New York. Dr. Edgar B. Carter president of the Indiana division " who was toastmaster, presented a watch fob to Dr. Eldred, Addresses were made by b, Mahin, Dr. R H. €arr and Dr. €. B. Jordan, of -Purdue . Deßow is Lucky. : Don Deßow who when a child lived with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Frank Deßow at Shipshewana and who left thatvicinity many years ago for the west has hecome the possessor of a valuable jewel by an unusual “streak of good luck.” During the World war he saw service in Europe and on a hike picked up a peculiar looking stone of unusual shape. He kept it and after his discharge from the army retrned to his home in Omaha, Neb. He showed it among his other relics and a jeweler upon examining it declared he had found a ruby of rare variety. It has been analyzed and its value has been placed at $119,000. +The lucky young man is a nephew of Rev. Charles Deßow formerly of Ligonier. :
Business is Good. ' Thus far the Ligonier Refrigerator company in January shows a large increase of business over a corresponding period. last year and indications that there will be no lull. Winter is the off season in the refrigerator line but the Ligonier company has been ;kept busy filling orders and when the rush comes with the advent of warm weather the plant will be a busy place. ‘ ; ; Presbyterian Church.
