Was Fine Meeting.
‘One of the most successful meetings this year of the Noble County Horticultural gociety was held at the country home of J E. Pancake, Farmers’ Federation chairman of Elkhart township. Over- one hundred members from all parts of the county were present to enjoy the instructive and entertaining program of music and addresses. A bountiful dinner was served on:the lawn under the canopy of magnificient trees. ; Postmaster Gaby of this city delighted thev isitors with old time melodies accompanied .by his guitar.
Fighting Parson at Winona.
Jack Cardiff evangelist pugilist is now a resident of Winona LaWKe. Rey. Cardiff former welter weight champion apd veteran of 297 pugilistic fights will ereet a cottage there. His last fight was in 1911, a twenty round batlte with Tim Callahom at Canton, Ohio, refereed by Jack Johnson. Soon-afterward, Cardiff hit the “sawdust trail” in one of Sunday’s meetings. He later qualified for the ministry at the Moody Bible institute. .
Farmers Meet at Kendallville.
An important meeting of the Indiana Federation of Farmers’ Associations .of distriet No. 2, is being held in Kendallville today and Tuesday. There are eight ‘counties in this district, Noble, Elkhart, LarGange, Steuben, DeKalb, Whitley, Kosciusko and Allen.
Maggart Reappointed.
Robert E. Maggart has been reappointed postmaster for Cromwell. He was nominated by President Wilson but the senate failed to confirm the appointment at that time. Mr. Maggart is a republican. _ N

- A dispatch says a stalk of corn bearing thirty-two distinctly developed ears, is on exhibition at Columbus. The stalk was cut green Dbefore -its mayn ears were discovered. :

Largely increased enrollment in thel public schools of the state generally at the apening of the fall term is expected to result from the enforcement of the provisipns of the new school attendance law. . ; Under the mew statute children of school age must attend school, regardless of whether they have conpleted the course of the elementary schools. This means that all under 16 years old who have graduated from the grade schools must attend high schools. o . With the opening of the fall term of the township schools, September 5, elementary schools will be under Edirec-t state supervision for the first time. S
Death Head Stops ’Em. | The Wawaka correspondent says: ‘“The Hoosier Automobile association’s signs representing cross bones and skull on each side of the Brimfield bridge caused four big machines to slow up just at the danger curves and they crawled like turtles over the high bridge; one of them from Illinois carried - a load of white faced women who nervously peered out as if expecting death at “any moment.” Thanks are due these good Samaritans for previously these machines hardly _ever slowed up at this doubly dangerous place.” e i
Anotile_r Birthday Party. Harry Knepp gave a party Friday afternoon to twenty boys and girls in honor of his seventh birthday. Games were played and refreshments served on the lawn. = , Herbert Galloway received a prize, also Nada Van Auken of Auburn, in the guessing contest.. Boys and girls had a general good time. Harry received many gifts in rememberance of the occasion. After the party Master Harry Knepp left for Syracuse with his grandmother Mrs. George Phebus to spend a few days. _ i

Bledsoe brothers operators: of a dancing pavilion at Weldon’s Landing at the opening of the fall term in exed into court at the instigation of the Steuben county law and order society for operating their business on Sunday. - . Ui
A jury of twelve women was chosen and after a trial that lasted two and a half days they returned a verdict of guilty and the Bledsoe brothers were fined $lO and costs. ! : '

Rev. S. W. Paul and son Carter of Ligonier were in 'Syracuse yesterday and today calilnf on old friends. Rey. Paul was until last year pastof the local U. B. church. He is fiow filling an assignment to the Ligonier U. B. church with the same marked success characterized his work here.— Syracuse Journal.
