Gold Star Memorial Volumes.
' Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Favinger of Albion, were in the city Saturday and delivered two copies of the Gold Star Memoyrial volumes, contasming the names of those who died while in service in the World War. One volume went to Mrs. Marjorie Bishop, whose husband Charles E. gave his life for his country. W. €. B. Harrison received a volume containing the record of his son, Corporal Ralph D. Harrison. who died while in service at Camp Sherman. Two copies went to residents of Perry township. The books were compiled and printed by the State ‘ Library Asociation and were distributed free of cost. Mrs. Favinger compiled. the records of the soldier dead in Noble county. :
Attempted Burglary.
A number of men were seen prowling about the residnece of Mrs. Stage on W. Third street about one o’clock Friday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Levy who live near had just returned home in their car and when stopped to investigate the prowlers mounted bicycles and rode rapidly down and alley. The officers were notified and made a search but could not find the suspects. : Mrs. Stage is -a widow and lives alone. She is hard of hearing and if the men made any noise about the house she did not detect it. :
Ploneer Educator Dead.
© E. D. Myers, 85 a resident of Elkhart county since 1840, died at his home in Elkhart. - In his early years Mr. Myers tanght in the county schools. Leaving there he was a student at Oberlin college for several years and then enlisted in an Ohio company for sérvice in the Civil war. He was wounded and returned to Elkhart. ! o In 1880 he became prineipal of a public school in Elkhart and served in ‘thatc apacity for nearly 30 years.
Big Drop in Arrests
~ The report of Desk Sergeant G. H. Whiteman of the Elkhart police for the month of July shows that of the 93 arrests during the month only three were for public intoxication although there were two others for driving an outomobile while drunk. During the days-of the open saloon the number of arrests for intoxication averaged one-fourth of the total.
Plunges to Death at -Niagara. Police are seeking the identity of the young woman who thrilled spectators of the electric illumination of the falls by leaping into the river and being carried over and dashed to death in Niagara Falls. Those who saw her jump into the river say she wore a black hat and brown suit and weighed about 140 pounds. §
Mayor’s Car Kills Child.
Jaunita Franke aged 9 daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Franke was almast instantly killed in Indianapolis when she was struck by Mayor Charles Jewett’'s automobile. The mayor’s chauffeur, Roy Powell was driving the car. e
Fined $5O.
Arrested in Mishawaka, John Alak of South Bend was fined $5O on a charg of carrying concealed weapons. He pulled a 32 Colt on Charles Montine a Mishawaka policeman,

Miller Boy Cuts Head.
Little Robert Miller thirteen years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh S.
Miller of LaGrange who has been with his grandparents at Three Rivvers, Michigan until his parents could locate themselves in a house, while swimming a few days ago, dived into what he thought was deep water. He struck his head on something in the water, or at the bottom, and cut a gash in his scalp that required fourteen stitehes to close. His scalp, torn loose from his forehead hung down over his eyes, and it was feared for al ittle while that he was fatally injured. : :
Posse Searches for Assailant ‘A posse formed Thursday ‘afternoon searched in vain for a man who viciously assouljted ian eleven year old girl, whose name is with held on the George Milliken farm near South Bend. The girl and her mother were picking blueberries on the farm, and at noon the girl failed to appear. After .a long search the child was found at three o!clock gagged, and her hand tied behind her back. Her clothing was torn off and her body badly bruised. L
Road in Fine <Condition.
The Lincoln Highway from Churubusco to the Cromwell brick road is in great condition at the present time. During the past year it has been graded and graveled and the work was well done. Josiah Kitson Buggy Robbed. Some thief robbed the buggy of Josiah Kitson in this city the other evening of copies of the Literary Digest, two pounds of spikes and two mouse traps. Mr. Kitson says if the thief wil read the Digests he may reform. He bought a cat and now has no use for the mouse traps.,The gentleman did not care to drive the spikes any way, so he holds no regentment against the thief. Ly
Many Diversions Furnished. ~Everything possible is being done by official§ of the Irene Byron hospital near Fort Wayne to make the place and surroundings pleasant and entertaining .for the many patients at the tuberculosis institution. Daily programs are carried out at the hospital which offers a wide range and variety of diversion for the patients including several from Noble County. =
: Death of Mrs. Brouse, Mrs. Alvina Brouse wife of Curtis Brouse and mother of Mayor U. C. Brouse of Kendallville died- Thursday moring at the Brouse home in that city at the age of 756 years. Death came after a ecritical illness of five days resulting from heart trouble. The deceased had been a resident of Noble county” for more than half a century. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon. .
10,000 Pass in One Year. Since the G. A. R. annual encampment was held in Indianapolis in 1920 over 10,000 have passed to the beyond. The total membership to day is 93,.165 against 103,358 in 1920. The 1920 encampmernt voted to meet every year as long as a single veteran survived. John L. Clem claims to be the youngest entering the army as a drummer at eleven years of age.
Aged Farmer Suicides.
Orlando Emil aged about 70 years well known and prominent farmer, committed suicide Friday at his homs three miles east of Hamilton, by hanging himslef by a rope from a rafter in the feed bain. The cause for this action is not known. Mr. Emi] owned his own farm and was one of the most prosperous farmers in Steuben county. : I

Word was received in Elkhart Friday that the body of Forrest Blough who was killed in aetion in Ogctober 1918, has arrived in Hoboken. He was the son of Mrs. F. D. Blough of Elkhart. ) ' - ; : Funeral services for Samuel Taylor killed in actionin France in 1918, were buried with nfilitary honors at his old home in Goshen Sunday. ' s

~ At a meeting of the eleven township trustees of LaGrange county, the salary of Hilda Hughes county superintendent was fixed at $2,600 and an allowances of $6OO was granted for an office assistant. Miss Ethel Schermer horn was ‘appointed to assist Miss Hughes. s
Fatally Injured in Fall.
George Green field, 74 a farmer living near Arcola was probably fatally injured early Thursday morning when he fell from the top of a load of hay in -Fort Wayne. A wheel broke the axle of the wagon and allowed the aged farmer to be thrown violently to the ground, : e
