The state pays for most of the pavement and property owners the balance. Padded Payrolls, = _ Charges that certain employees of the maintenance. department of the state highway commission padded pay rolls is being investigated by the commission -and will be further investigated by the prosecuting attorney of Vigo county, Lawrence Lyons director, said today. The matter of removing a jog from a state road in Howard county near Kokomo said to be resented by some land owners is also to be thoroughly probed. =

The alleged pay rool padding took place several months ago prior to reorganization of the highway ' commission and appointment of Mr. Lyons as director. = The charges were made following an audit of the department'’s books by A. L. Donaldson, engineerexaminer for the state board of ac counts. The party involved formerly was a division superintendent with headquarters at Terre Haute, According to L .H. Wright former highway director the pay roll was padded in & way to turn state highway money over to a girl, and was entered under a man’s name on the state pay roll as a truck driver. The superintenednt is. said to have made good the sums charged to him and to have been dismissed. - i

Saw Boys Snowballing. : Mayor Henoch writing to W. W. Wood from Yellowstone Park says he saw boys snow balling there the first of the week. The information had anything but a cooling effect on the recipient of the missive, When Mr, Henoch returns Mr. and Mrs. Wood will leave on a vacation trip through the east. The burgo-master is now in Des Monies, lowa. . - Musser Under Bond. - - Jacob Musser gave a bond last night of $l,OOO for his appearance in circuit court to answer a charge of assault with intent to kill preferred by Floyd Stiffner.. The men had trouble some time ago which ended in a fight. Mosher Fined for Fishing. Herbert “Curley” Mosher paid a fine of $l.OO and costs totaling $17.50 in Squire Anderson’s court at Etna recently for illegal fishing. Notice of Improvement Resolutions. . Ligonier, Indiana. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: ‘Notice is hereby given by the Common Council of the city of Ligonier, Indiana, that it is desirous and deem- ¢ mnecessary to make the following described public improvement in the city of Ligonier, Indiana, as authorized by the following numed Resolutions adopted by the said Council on the 27 day of July, 1921, to wit: Improvement Resolution No, 3A for the improvement of that part of Union Street in said city from the east corporation line to where it intersects with Fort Wayne Road fin said city. Improvement Resolution No. 2A for the improvement of Ft, Wayne road extending from Sixth Street south and east to the corporation line; and Cavin Street from Sixth street south to the alley between Wood Street and Union' Street in said City.

Improvement Resolution No. 1A for the improvement of First and Spring Streets from Cavin Street west to the corporation line in said city. * All' work to be dene under an order of the State Highway Commission as provided for by the resolutions and order of said Council. ; The Common Council has fixed August 15th 1921 as the date upon which remonstrances may be filed or heard by persons interested in or affected by said described public improvements and on said date at 7:30 P. M. said council will meet at its office in said city of Ligonier, for the purpose -of hearing and considering any remonstrances which may have been filed, or which may be presented and will hear all persons interested, or whose propetry is affected by said proposed improvements and will decide whether the benefits they will accrue to the property abutting an_d*i adjacent to the proposed improvements and to said city will be equal to or exceed the estimated cost of the proposed improverfents, as estimated by the State Highway Commission, ; : G.
