' Better Babies Campaign, A campaign in the interest of ‘the babies and their mothess will be started this coming month of July, the 18, 1921 under the direction of the State Board ©f Health, and conducted by the lecal Red Cross Committee. It will be packed with the fullest information - and instruction not only for mbthers of children six years old and under but also with the best of medical advise for- mothers-to-be. : Ade ‘B, Schweitzer=M, D. who is directress of the Division of Infant and €hild Welfare of the Indiana State Boafd of. Health, will conduet a clinie for the children, which. will be the source of larger and more intelligent care for babies in the homes. . ‘Ampong . the prospective plans for the three days are talks by the doctors on such themes as health and marriage, Infant feeding and prenatal care,confidential addresses by nurses to mniothers and girls clagses. which will include such subjects as preparation for baby, daily schedules for baby, weaning, layettes and baby's menu.. It cught. to be impressed upon every mother in this community ‘as-it is the first of its kind to bring a comprehensive knowledge of baby’s needs and baby care right to the parent. ~ In this day of larger sense of civic and community responsibility it is gratifying to feel that Ligonier is ‘one of the foremost of communities to take a part in this work that all pro‘gressive men and women think neeessary to conserve and build up the health of the young life in this community.. - S T e
- Large as are the plans for this camcampaign for July 18, 19, and 20 the need is ever larger and when if is seen how benficial such work is the§ greater will be the demand for such campaigns of education and training in the future.. _° Col, Foster Named Head, l Col. David N. Foster has returned fo Fort Wayne from Lafayette where he attended the meeting o fithe trustess of the Indiana State Soldiers' Home. of that city. Col. Foster was chose’n.} president of the board at the meeting. Ex-Governor Winfield T. Durbin was chogen vice president; BEdward W. Lyons, of Brook secretary and Mrs.
J. 8. Morrison of Lafayeite, was chosen treasurer. Dr. W. H. Rogers of Indianapolis is the other member of the board. The board will soon let contracts for a supplyhouse to be. buiit at a cost of $12,000 and a new hospital at a cost of about §175,000. & b ‘Red Norton Captured. : . Harry J. Sterling alias “Red” Norton aged 26 who escaped from the Elkhart county jail on April 26, where he was held for trial in connection with the -robbery of the safe at the Orpheum threatre at Elkhart was recaptured Friday at Napoleon, 0. . Sterling pleaded guilty and was sentenced to: the reformatory at Jefferson, ville for'll to 14 years, fined $750 the amount he got from the safe, and was disfranchised for three years. He had $1 to pay on his fine.

Deputy Sheriff Tom Long of Elkhart county suffered abrasions and sprains of his right hand when thrown from his motorcycle while chasing an automobile speeder on the Adamsvilie road four miles north of Elkhart. Mr, Long says his speedometer showed he was going SO»fiJEes an hour at the time of the accident. . At that he was gaining but slightly on the speeder, who escaped and, whose identity was not learged. -w0 - . Aeccidentlly Shot. ‘Mrs. Roy Conrad of near: Elkhart ‘was badly injured and but narrowly escaped death when accidéntally shot by her husband Thursday night. A steel capped bullet from a 44-calibre revolver grazed her chin, passed into her neek just below the chin and downward through her shoulder and: came out just below and back of her shoulder. The bullet then passed through the boftom of a porch swing in which she ‘was sitting. = : o
. - Gandy Gets Divorée, - Oscar Gandy Jr., of Churubusco was granted a divorce from Mabel Gandy in the Noble circuit court. Under the terms of the decree the defendant receives a settlement of $1,200. The case was filed in Ihe = Whitley cireuit. Failure of the plaintiff in the case to appear in court resulted in the aection being stricken from the docket. ' Teeth Knocked Out. - Authur V. Harter Goshen poolroom owner lost all of his front teeth and has a badly gashed mouth, the result of having been struckwith a golf club swung by Otis Zollinger of Goshen, while they ‘were playing at.the Goshen Golf club links Friday afternoon. He will * probably be permanently disfigured. - ot . Qovers Floed Story, = Ford Frick an Eikhart township boy now a reporter on the Post, Colorade Springs, Colo., had the honor of being, the first newspaper man to be piloted over flood stricken Pueblo in an airplane.
