- The Chautauqua Coming. : The Ligonier Chautauqua a splendid prografl of entertainment’ and inspiration will be here for the week beginning -August 3 and will be one of the best planned programs ever set begore the people of this Community.

The time has been so arranged as to enable the largest number of citizens to make the Chautauqu a part of their vacation enjoyment and at the same; time to furnish good opportunity to avoid some of the heat of the hottest month in the year in the cool 'shade’ of the Chautauqua tent. The . coolest part of the day, the morning will not be infringed upon by the program so that business men,l tarlpers, professional and employed men, and their housewives can have time- to arrange for making the afternoons the more enjoyable and carefree. The afternoon and evening will be filled’ with some of the finest talent proenirable from the Chautauqua Bureaus of this day. : Saturday of the week will be de-l-voted entirely to »fea,tur,es of agricultural interest. This day till evening ‘will be in charge and under control of the Farmers’ Association... Chautauqua Day. - Farm Bureau divisions -in Elkhart Noble and LaGrange " counties are planning to have a farm bureau day at the Ligonier chautauqyya this year as was had last year. A: speaker from the national department will be there on that day. : : Mrs. Lucy Muessing died in the Kendallville hospital the result of ‘an operation. The husband and three children survive.

~ Board of Review Meets. The Noble county board of review convened at Albion Monday and will hear all grievances of property ownifners who believe their assesments are too high. The board is comprised of ‘W. C. Auman. of Kendallville, J. L. Dunning of Ligonier, the county assessor, county auditor -and county treasurer. - : L o Any taxpayer who believes that his property has been appraised too. high. for taxes in 1922 may appeal to the board for adjustment. If the adjustment is not satisfactory, an appeal later can be taken to the state board State officials point out that too often taxpayers complain of their taxes at taxpaying time, which is long after the time for an adjustment has. passed} and that such taxpayers in many instances' 'did not acquaint themselves with their property appraisemetns and ‘amount of taxes until too late for appeal. . o ;

Mrs. Susan Galloway and L: Barnes of LaGrange figured in ‘a narrowing experience Monday morning at Wolcottville, when the Ford sedan in which they were riding was struclq by an east bound Wabash™ passenger train. The machine was practically de&nolished, the wreckage clinging to the cylinder of the large locomotive and-was dragged along the tracks for ‘over fifty feet.. Both occupants of the l,car fortunately escaped serious inJjury. Fox of the Central hotel and a member o fthe Kendallville auto polo team, who suffered serious injuries late Monday ‘afternoon when the auto'polo car in which he was riding with Léslie’ Willlams turned over near the Feebles home 'south of that city, wag resting somewhat easier to-~ day and:hopes for his recovery are now being entertained. .
