The Community Nurse Fund Drive. The Community Nurse Committee, and those who so kindly volunteered to assist them in raising funds to continue the work for the ensuing year, put their best efforts into it and have failed to raise the required amount. Only $1120.00. "has been subscribed, and unless $lBOO.OO can be raised the work must be discontinued. e The solicitors .tried to see everyone but some were away from home, or absent from their places of business. If there are any who were not seen or who may wish to increase the subscription already made, they will kind ly go to either of our three banks, and fill out cards which will be left there for. that purpose. This most be done on or -before June 20th and if the necessary amount is not. subscribed by that time, all subseriptions will be cancelled and payments already made will be refunded. !
On behalf o fthe solicitors, the Commitee wishes to thank those who sub-. seribed so cheerfully and so liberally. - Their names will be published in the near future. ‘The business men, with only a few ‘exceptions 'came across splemndidly. Those who refused can be determined by process of elimination, when the list is published. Our business men, as well as all others who subscribed what they could afford to give, are to be highly commended for their charity and public spirit. tee e e Some refused to subscribe on the ground that something in the past did not exactly please them. Nothing on this earth has ever been done without error and never will be. The com‘mittee has no time to follow the work in detail. 'They are all just as busy \as you are, and perhaps more so. If ‘the subscribers desire to re-place ‘them with others, they will welcome ithe change. They have 'given their time to this work for the benefit of thec ommunity, and had no personal ‘““axes to grind.” Are you willing to take the burden of ftheir shoulders? Many refusals were due to misunderstanding and misrepresentation. Some did not want to understand. No fault can be found with those who really could not afford to contribute. If sufficient funds can be secured to continue the work, the service will be given to all who need it, regardless of their reason for failing to support the cause. There will be no discrim‘ina, tion of any kind. | - It will be a blot on the good name

of this community if this humanitarlan work is discountinued. It is intended principally ‘for the benefit of those who could not hire a nurse, when sick comes into their family. Lmee quarters of the serivce so far has been given without charge. Only those who are amply able are expected to pay the very nominal fee. The amount received from fees during the past year, would not pay the expenses for sixty days. = - Every citizen should realize what ‘the presence of the nurse in Ligonier may mean.to them. Your need qof the service may come at any moment, and it may /be desperate. It may even mean the life of some member: of your own family. Even if you are able to ‘pay for it, you may not be able to get ‘a nurse from out of town, no matter how urgent the need. That has happened in the past. ‘lt may happen again in the future, for there lis a !_shortage in that partieular protession.} Forget your little grievance, if you have ome ,and do your duty to the community in which you live. Help. ‘to improve the service, instead of to ‘hinder it. hTe committee will welcome any suggestions or eomplaints ‘you may have to make, and will use every reasonable endeavor to correct any mistake which may be made.
Remember -if the full amount is .not subscribed by June 20th the work must be discontinued. Do not expect others to carry it on for ycu. All who can afford to subsecribe even a small amouht, must put their shoul‘ders toithe wheel, ar work will fail. "We had an epidemic of influenza less ‘than two years ago. It may be that or something else almost any time. If you do not realize the necessity of it for yourself think at least of the little children who may suffer from the lack of this splendid service. ‘ The object of this work is to relieve suffering.. The result of the drive will determine the -civic and religious spirit of the community. _ o e -The Committee.
