Seed Corm Testing Poorly.
Reports from farmers who have been testing seed corn 4ndicate that in certain instances as much as ten percent of the corn has not germinated. Weak germs are numerous anid root disease seems to be more in evidence than usual, i i : Farmers seem to agree that in spite 0 fthe ideal season last fall corn 4id not mature properly.: In some instances, corn covered with dead husks was found to be in_the milk, while in other places mature corn was covered with green husks, Complaints are common that crib corn has not kept well this winter. Such corn can not be expected to make dependable seed. Nearly all samples of corn at the State Corn Show last January showed more or less germs, it is said. The condition seems to be general throughout thecorp belt. = - : Several counties have established central testing stations where farmers bring their corn, have it tested under the ‘best of conditions and at.a trifling cost. Such a station is being got in shape at Albion by the Noble County Farmers Asociation for/the use of Noble County farmers. The testing is to be in charge of Edwin L. Pricket.
