Booze Toter at Warsaw. Fined.
‘John Spadmiski of Gary was found guilty of violation of the liquor laws at Warsaw Friday and was fined $2OO and costs and sentenced to serve 20 days in the county jail. Peéte Lipinski, who was arrested with Spadnisdd was released because of lack of avidence against him. The two men woere arrested af Warsaw. a week ago when they stopped at a garage there. Suspicion was aroused wlen thé men asked permission to sleep in their car. The police investigated and found 140 quarts of whisky which they said had been purchased at Indianapolis. |
Lewis Re-elected.
John L. Lewis has been reelccted president of the United Mine Workers of America by the largest majority ever given a candidate for head of the union. Lewis’ majority over Robert H, Harlin, of Washington is between 66, 000 and 67,000, it was announced at intéernational headquarters of the miners’ organiation at the conclusion of the count of votes cast in the recent nation-wide election. ‘ 3

Arrested in Michigan.
David Yoder, arrested geveral months ago on a charge of larceny, and who failed to appear in court when called for trial, although he had been released on bond, was arrestéd again at White Pigeon, Mich. : Yoder has been arrested on a complaint filed by the Truex Hote!l, of Rlkhart. The hotel management charged that Yoder had stolen two blankets from the hotel, after spending a night there. The officers who made the arrest found the blankets at the Yoder home near Middlebury. . - Yoder was. arraigned in the city court at Elkhart, His bond was fiixed at $3OO and was provided by Joseph Nusbaum, of Middlebury. When Yoder failed to appear for trial and could not be found, the hond was forfeited. : g

The home of Mr. and Mrs. J. 8. Neterer, one mile south of Elkhart was sompletely destroyed by fire at 2:30 o'clock Frldgy while Mrs. Neterer was in Geshen visiting her mnther, Mrs. Ira Ganger. Mr. Neterer an cmployee of the Indiana. & Michigan Electic company was at home alcne when the fire started. His escape down the stiarway was cut off ani ne was forced to use a window. Petition for a further stay of eaecution for Walter Baker, sentenced to die in the lectric chair Feb. 18 for the murder of Carl Cook, LaPorte grocer, was filed in the state supreme -~ourt late Thursday by Seebrit anae Gilion South Bend attorneys. The petition may be acted upon before night. -
