Objectionable Feature of Tax Law of Last Year Is Eliminated This Year .
“Tte itemized list of household goods on the tax assesscent schedule last vear, which caused so much criticism, will not appear on this year's personal proverty >chedule, according to a revision of tax assessment rules completed by the state board of tax commis- - sloners at Indianapolis. It was generally understood that- the board would order the elimination of the itemized ~'lst a 8 Gov. McCray recommended such action in his message to the legislature. \ Instead of making the itemized statement of M 1 household goods, the taxpayers must merely give the number of rooms in the house. : A general advance of time limits in which applications may be filed by tax payers has been set by the board ' the 192! rules. Thus applications for assessment of real estate must be made by the taxpayers before April 1, a month earlier than last year. Reappraisment of any real estate where the assesed value of such real estate is thought by th applicant to he less than its full cash value shall be filed not later than March 21.. Last year *uck applications were filed up to Aprinl 30, . - The ord-r reads that ‘“the state | Lboard tax commissioner will receiva recommendations of three county officers that 1 reassessment of real estate {8 necessary to maintain an eguitable and just valuation, not later than March 21" . Rate of Depreciation Varles.
One per cent depreciation might suffice as a charge against a very substantial brick or stove building. On some frame buildings tt~ rate wi'l run as nigh as 3 or 4 per ceni. Against farm machinery the rate varies even more widely It may run between 0§ and 30 per cent, and depends principally upon the implement itself and in the way it is used. The Office of Farm Management, United States Department of Agriculture, believes that a rate somewlhere between 7 and 12 per cent will be nearly correct for most fgrtr machinery, It is largely a matter of individua! observation as no two farms are ailke in this respect.
