Jones A Poor Marksman. l Thuron Jones, aged 77, is in jail at Albion in default of $l,OOO bond to answer a charge of shooting at Wiillam - Munk with murderous intent. The parties reside near Kendallville and a preliminary hearing was held before Mayor Brouse Monday. 2 Testimony in the hearing disclosed the following. = ~ About three years ago, Jones ap‘[»pe‘rod at the Munk home and asked l‘m & place to live and for something to eat. Mr. Munk grated his wishcs and gave him a job on the farm anld permission to live in a small ‘house near the Munk farm. However, it was said an agreement was made that in the event Jones should ever leave the place all crops planted near the house and to be harvested would be the property of Mr. Munk. Jones decided to leave the place in August this year and Mr. Munk proceeded to harvest the cfops. Yesterday, he was in the carn field loading some corn fodder, which amounted -to about eleven shocks. It was at this time Jones appeared, flourishing a revolver and stating that the crops belonged to him. Mr. Munk objected and started to lead the horses away, when Jonés opened fire with the revolver, none. of the shots, however, taking effect. -
- Death of Willlam Belght. . Willlam C. Beight, age §7 years, a litelong resident of Noble county, died Monday evening at his home, two ‘miles east of Kendallville. Death. wag due to hardening of the arteries and complications with which he had been a sufferer for over a vear. The widow and one daughter survive along with five brothers. e - Hide Prices Down.
