| Capital and Surplus $4,000,000 ~ - SIXTY YEARS OF INVESTMENT SERVICE ' ' OTIS BUILDING, CHICAGO - e e Ligonier, Ind. Fort Wayne Detroit » ' ~ Minneapolis o, 0 : - . Securities of the “Straus Standard” ' Securities are grouped in three main classes, according to the degree of - , safety they technically enjoy. | - . Bonds are a first lien on all property pledged, ahead of other claims. ’ ~ They are technically the safest, but earn the least. _ Common stocks earn the most and are least secure. They have comparatively little security behind them. They are affected by every loss _ or decline in trade. But they also participate in every gain to an un- " limited extend. A speculative elemant attached to them---they sharein - - both risk and reward. o L e ’ Preferred stocks occupy a middle ground. They are secured by all . the earnings of the issuer above fixed charges; the income is fixed, non speculative, like interest on a bond, but from 14, to 134 higher. _ Since earning power is a major part of the real security behind ~ any investment, the preferred stock of a strong company is much ¥ safer than the first mortgage bonds of a weaker one. A gilt edge ~ preferred stock compares favorably with the bestfirst mortgage : The “Straus Standard” of Preferred Stocks involves certain well . defined requirements and practices which safeguard both itself and ~ the investor. The Straus Standard always requires the four safe guards of established earning power, a high ratio of net quick as= sets, strong management and no funded debt. e s : ~ character. e v‘ l Could Hardly Drag Himself to Work— Feels Fine In the Morn- ~ Ings, Now. 1 “Tanalac has benefitted me so much I no longer doubt anything good I read or hear about it.,” said John Farrow, 1876 Erie street, Toledo, Ohio, an employee of the Libby Glass Company, continuing, Mr. Farrow said: e “For several years I have occasionally suffered with sharp shooting pains in the small of my back and in my right leg and foot and cramping pains in my stomach, which gradually grew worse until for the past six months 1 have had these pains nearly all the time. My appetite had become 80 poor I could hardly eat a thing, and the littie 1 did eat would ferment, gas would form and the pains in my stomach would nearly kill me. My nerves were in an awful bad condition, and I was in worse pain at night than ‘n the day time, if that was possible, 1 could get but little sleep at any time and many a night would lie awake all night long. 1 had become so badly run down I could hardly get to my work in the mornings, although 1 only lived two blocks away, and after the day was over | would just have to almost craw] home, where 1 would force down a few mouthfuls of supper and drag myself off to another night of misery. “1 bad tried 0o many different medicines without getting any benefit | had about lost faith in everything, and as | continued to grow worse I felt like 1 didn’t care whether I lived or not. Looking back now 1 don't ses how I managed to work at all, and, 1 just moped around the house till my people ‘were very much worrled over my condition. “] had read many statements in the local papers from people who had been benefitted by Tanlac, and although, as I said before I had about lost faith in all medicines, I decided to try it, and the improvement in my condition almost as sqon as I started taking it was simply remarkable. I never have a pain of any kind now and my appetite is better than it ever was. I can sleep as sound as a log and always get up in the morning feeling fine and ready for work. Tanlac has re-
| lieved me of all my troubles after evtoo glad to say a good word for it." { Tanlac is sold in Ligonier by 8. J.
