The Tigonier Banner : W. C. B. HARRISON Editor Poblished every Tucsdsy sx o Friday sl entered iathePostofice st Ligo v, Ind. - coemd PLACING THE BLAME = County Superintendent Hall has a very interesting communication iy this issue of the Banner which should be perused carefully by all interested in the public schools and there are few citizens without interest. , By the communication Sapt. Hall shows that the county schools ar: crippled and handicapped by a lach of proper funds to conduct thgm their required term length and with efficient teachers. S
The whole blame f¢r a shortage of funds must be placed upon Gov. Goodrich and his state tax board. The ta> board reduced the assessment for school purposes in order to increase the revenues for state purposes. = ‘Mr. Hall says the shortage in Noble county is $20,000. This estimate is congervative. It would be twice tha' sum if the teachers were being paid anything near what they earn.
'The tax law must be so amended as to restore local government control to the residents of local units. The people in the communities know best their own needs and should have !h:e{ right -to expend their tax money as they choose. - _ = No wonedr teachers are leaving the profession to enter trade and other smployment where the financial returns are so much more attractive. Levy taxes néeded to produce suflficient funds to pay school teachers what their services are worth and Noble county will secure the instructors for her schools. No citizen wil com‘plain of a just school tax any more than he will find fault with raising the pay of school teachers.” =~ .. Supt. Hall is on the right track and should have the solid support of . the school patrons. of Noble county.
