Charles Downing, for 18 years secretary of the state . fair board, is dead at Indianmapolis. He was known to many Noble county people.
L. Schloss is circulating among his old friends again after speding ten weeks in an Indianapolis hospital. He says old Ligonier is good enough for him.
Mrs. Roy McDaniels who has been spending a few days with her little daughter at the home of Ira McDuaniels returned to South Bend Tuesday morning. o :
John W. Eggeman of Fort Wayne, former of the Allen circuit court and who resigned from the bench to engage in Knights of Columbus work, has arrived in France.
Miss Pearl Freed, of this city, is acting as cashier of the Farmers State Bank of Albion until a successor for Abel Barnum, who resigned the job, can be secured. Miss Freed is very competent. : ,
According to word received from the federal railroad administrator at Washington arrangements are made which permit the railroads in Indiana to offer special reduced rates to patrons of tue state fair to be held in Indianapolis, Aug. 31-Sept. 7. :
Karl Sisterhen is located at Camp Oglethorpe, Georgia, and he writes that many new buildings are being erected there for the accomodation of troops. The cantonments are to be refilled during August A stream of men are going overseas. :
The bone dry prohibition law is being rigidly enforced in Indiana ac ording to state - authorities. The antisaloon league officers are keeping a close watch and if local officers fail to pro:ecute offenders the state will step in.
