Mr.and Mrs. R. D. Sinclara, of Chicago, will spend next ‘week at Wawasee Inn. Mrs. Sinclare is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Dunning. Mr. and Mrs. Dunning and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Bender will spend Sunday with them.

Two fine showers visited Noble county during the week and the farmer is wearing a smile of satisfaction. It has fitted the ground for fall plowing as well as proving a benefit to the late potatoes.

‘““The Hub’’ opens tomorrow, Saturday. This is the new store in the Dunning block, the old postoflice stand. Messrs. Mennen & Feferman have issued an invitation to the public to visit their store. See the invitation elsewhere in the Banner.

Mr. and Mrs. B. F Myers, daughter and young friend of Defiance, Ohio, made a pleasant call on T. J. Mawhorter and family near. Wawaka the first of the week. The whole party visited Rome City and the Buckeye folks were much pleased with the resort. Mr. and Mrs. Mawhorter accompanied their guests as far as Kendallville on the return journey.

No New Cases

Little Edgar Clark, the infantile paralysis vietim of Kimmell is rapidly improving and no new cases have developed. The strict quarantine laid it is believed will confine the disease to one case. .

Henry A. Bause had his tonsils removed in an Elkhart hospital by Dr. Wineburg.

Guy Hieber, of the Novelty Studio, is quiter ill at the Frank P. Wood home. Mr. Hieber recently returrded from a long auto tour. ;

The ball game at Goshen Sunday, the second of the series.by Goshen and Ligonier will draw a big crowd. Ligonier won the first game and now Goshen is most anxious to even the score. : ;

All places of business closed Tuesday afternoon from 2:30 until 4 o’clock during the funeral of the late William A. Brown. The deceased was universally respected and the- tribute to his memory was one the people of Ligonier were glad to pay.

Mrs. C. A. Taylor and childreh who spent the summer at the Dr. Gants cottage, spent three days in driving home to Kefrton, Ohio, with a horse and buggy.' Mrs. Taylor says another year and she will operate an automobile for the trip.

Owing to the action of the city in regard to the children being requested to absent themselves from any public meeting, only adult classes will convene at the Christian church until the Mayor revokes his order. : R. O. Wickham, Minister. ! Wm. Snider, Supt.

Harry S. Vance has been confined to his home this week on account of illness. . ‘

George McCoy and family have moved to this city from Churubusco recently.

Mrs. J. H..Cruine, of Elkhart, spent Monday here with her daughter, Mrs. Ira McDaniel, who is in very poor health.

Francis Zimmerman, the bright young reporter of the Banner, has resigned his position in order to devote himself more glosely to his studies.

Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Bowser of Syra cuse, Mr. and Mrs. Keith and Mrs. A. F. Wilden of Goshen spent Sunday with Mrs. Elizabeth Herald and daughters. :

Mrs. Lizzie Moore left Wednesday evening for Goshen where she will attend the fair. From there she will go to South Bend to visit her daughters for a week.

Oscar Flowers has removed with his family to G6shen and will reside at 613 8. Fifth street in that city. Mr. Flowers during his residence in Ligonief has made many friends.

Whitley county health officers have adopted quarantine measures to prevent the congregation of all children un?er sixteen years of age on account of infantile paralysis in that county.

The proposition to establish a free gravel road in Noble township at a special election held Tuesday was defeated by a majority of two votes.

Secretary Dunnifig of the Longeliff Asylum board will go to Logansport Monday to attend an important meeting of the board, it being the end of a fiscal year. ,

The contract for the Harlan free gravel road was awarded by the county commissioners to Edward Maloney of Churubusco, his bid being $8,875.

Kendallville is going to pave Railroad street next year aloug with a number of other thoroughfares. Ligonier will probably pave First and Union streets.

Mrs. Henry Jeanneret celebrated her 81st birthday anniversary’ Wednesday, Sept. 6, and on Thursday made a Srip to Niles, Mich. Mrs. Jeanneret is a remarkably well preserved lady.

Mrs. James Morris and daughters came over from Elkhart Tuesday, and in company with Mrs.. Morris’ sister, Mrs. W. L. Jackson, attended the Steinbargeer reunion at Cosperville.

John T. Crothers, the well known farmer and stock man, sold the other day two shorthorn spring calves to Harry Schlabach for $4OO. The price is a little long but the calves are good ones. ;i -

Louis Sisterhen has gone to South Bend to take a course in the business college there. Mr. Sisterhen is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sisterhen, a graduate of the Ligonier high school and a young man of promise.

Mrs. Frank Kerrick, of Indianapolis, who had been a guest at the Harrison cottage at Diamond lake for two weeks left yesterday to' visit her grandmother in Hicksville, Ohio, before returning to her home. ‘

The speaking tour of Congressman Adalr in Noble county which closed with a big rally at Kendallville Monday night was a complete success, arousing great enthusiasm. Mr. Adair is.a good speaker, temperate in his danguage and convincing in argument. His visit developed a. feeling of satisfaction among the party leaders in the county. Chairman Cleland and Vice-Chairman Henoch say the visit of Mr. Adair brought out the fact that the democratic party in Noble county was never in better conditioh.

Goshen Damaged by Storm

Goshen was visited by a wind storm Monday night which amounted to almost a cyclone. The roof of the grandstand ‘at the fair ground. was blown off and tents and stands blown down. It proved disastrous to concession holders for the fair which hag been on this week. A barn and silo on the Isaac Cripe farm were blown down and the big barn. on the MeConoughy farm was struck by lightning and burned with.all the contents, entailing a heavy loss. The wind blew a gale in Ligonier but did little damage. ! )

Scare Still On

‘Trustee Price has decided to postpone the opening of the township schools until September 18. THis is in line with the action of the Ligonier school board, which postponed the opening of school in the city on account of the infantile paralysis scare.

Philip Bickel and wife have recieved several interesting letters from their son, Charles, who Is with the Indiana soldiers in Texas. Charley is in good health and is making a good soldier for Uncle Sam. :

When a burly negro with a big revolver and wearing a policeman’s star was seen marchidg through the city ‘Wednesday he was halted by Chief of Police Flowers, who is on duty again after a month’s illness. The colored man said he was a member of the Chicago police force on a vacation. -

Clement G. Routsong, of Wolcottville, has accepted the democratic nomination for state senator of Noble and--LaGrange connties, filling the vacancy.caused by the resignation of Dr. Nelson J. Shook, of Kendallville.
