The Noble circuit court does not convene until October. Judge Wrigley is holding court in Whitley this month.

M. and E. Jacobs have sold the John Mault farm to Marshal Boulton. The Messrs. Jacobs are heavy dealers in real estate. - : i

- Thieves stole the Ford car of J. D. Stacy at LaGrange the other night and now the police authorities have another hunt on their hands.

The school children are seen this morning on the way to school loaded with books and papers. The vacation for the boys and girls is now over.

Sig Kann was in Lima, Ohio, the night a mob attempted to lynch a negro and hanged the sheriff of Allen county. Sig says he is epposed to mob rule.: . g .

Manager Harry Inks of the local telephone company is having the poles removed from the streets and alleys of the city, the wires being placed in conduits under ground. :

The 1917 Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic will be held in Boston; The gathering at Kansas City this year showed much feebleness amony the old boys who wore the blue. o |

Harold Isabell, a former resident of Kendallville, was held up in Detroit where he is employed by the Standard Oil Company and robbed of $2,700 by automobile bandits. :

Mrs. J. M. Denny of Ligonier was chosen vice-president of the Noble county W. C. T. U. at a meeting held in Wolcottville last Friday. The 1917 convention will be held in Cromwell.

Herbert and Mary -DeVoe motored over {rom Kendallville and visited P. A. Joray and family.- They returned home Saturday accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Joray, who will visit in Kendallville a few days. _

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sorgenfrei will reside in a home near the new school building in Elkhart township, Mr. S. being the.principal. The new school building is modern and up to date and the school will have four teachers.

~Rev. A. E Grubbs of Ligonier will deliver the opening address‘ at the seventy-second annual conference at the St. Joseph branch of the United Brethren church at Warsaw this Tuesday evening. Six hundred ministers and delegates are expected to attend the six day meeting. ‘

Al Jackson, alias Bill Cole, picked the lock to his cell in the LaGrange jail Friday and escaped to Michigan. Jackson or Cole was arrested along with Charles Anson for the theft of an automobile at the LaGrange chautauqua. Bloodhounds trailed the fugitive to Grass lake where the scent was lost. - ]

The injuries to Fred D. Ziegler, struck by a B. & O. freight at Wawasee last Wednesday night as detailed in Friday’s Banner, died in a Goshen hospital Friday night., The deceased is survived by his invalid wife and two small daugeters. The 'Ziegler family resides in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but had been occupying a Wawasee cottage during the summer. -

Floyd Bartholomew, when divorced by his wife in 1912, was directed to pay her $5OO alimony and $lO a month for the support of a minor child. He has failed to make any of the payments and was arrested and lodged in the LaGradge jail. Bartholomew is a resident of Goshen and has had numerous matrimonial alliances = although a young man of less than 30 years. His present wife is a former resident of Noble county.

Albion Girl Tries Suicide

Miss Madge Quinn, aged 23 and residing with her mother, Mrs. Mary Lang, of Albion, attempted suicide at Garrett Friday night, but was frus. trated after becoming unconscious Miss Quinn secured medicine of a doctor for asthma and while in the office of the physician picked up a bottle of choloform. The suicide attempt was made in the lavatory at the railway station. 6 :

Plan Falls Down

The plan to surface one-half mile of the Lincoln Highway west including} First street in Ligonier with concrete has fallen through, despite the fact that the Lincoln Highway Association agreed to furnish everything entering into the improvement but the washed gravel and the work of construction. :

Some of the Ligonier property owners thought the cost to them would be too great even with 1,500 barrels of cement, the steel reinforcements and the expansion joint supports furnished free tegether with a superintendent. Miss Vada Crothers, formerly of Ligonier, who moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Crothers to eastern Colorado, was united in marriage to Mr. Shirkey, of Colerado, August 23. v o

Mr! and Mrs. Clyde Neterer were released on a bond of $l,OOO each at Goshen to answer a charge of assault with intent to kill.. Mrs. Neterer shot B. ¥. Working in the abdomen when Neterer and Working engaged in a fight. . - ,

Jonathan Simmons, the old veteran who had resided in Ligonier for so many years, said good-bye to his old friends Eriday and departed for his new home 'in South Bend. Mr. Simmons makes his home with his daughter, Mrs. Milo Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Miller have moved to South Bend where Mr. Miller has secured a good position. ‘ 0 :

County Commissioner William Pieper of Allen township was acquitted in the office of Justice Lash at Kendallville Friday on a charge of knowingly allowing Canada thistles to grow on his farm. The action was brought by Bernard Haines, who was arrested and found guilty of a similar charge seveal weeks ago. Mr. Pieper and his tenant Paul Weimer showed in their evidence that the Canada thistles had been cut fifteen or twenty times.during the summer. : :
