Tuberculosis Symptoins Dr. Herman M. Biggs, goneral director of -the health department of Few York City. has prepar ed a striking statement of the first symptoms of pulmouary tuberculosis at the request of the Charities Aid Association of New York state. It has also been eundorsed by other prominent physiciaus and should be given the greatest possible publiesty, that parents may watch thoair children and be warned in timme. The statement reads: : : “Any of the folowing symptoms should lead one to consule his physician and have his lungs é_xmnined and sputum tested: 1. A cough lasting amouth;except whooping cough, . ; 2. Poor appetite (esp ecially in the morning) and indigest (on, and pallor (generally “run down.' ") : 3. Hoarseness lasting several weeaks. : 4. Spitting, especially in tlhe morning. : : 2

Apy, several or all of these ra_\'mp-i toms coming after a gevere cold, la-| crippe, bronchitis, whooping cough, | Ineasies, typhoid fever, or any other acute disease, may indicate tuberculosis, | Two or three or mors examiuations should be made. The germs may not be found the tirst time the sputam is examined and indeed they may not be found at all until the disease is far advanced. Accordingly no reliance should be placed ona negative sputum examinatioun if other symptoms are present. A thorough physical examination should be ‘had, and perhaps several of them. ‘t'['nberculosis in its incipient stage is a very difficult disease to diagnose }evon in a physical examination." “Too mueh publicity cannot be given the knowledge of this kind, which may be the means of saving aatold sorrow and suffering and thousands of lives besides. : The boacd of health of every commuedity in the state should endeavor to convey this life-saving information to every citizen within its reach and its importance should not be overiooked by any one interested in the preventative work of the anti- { taberculosis campaign. ] | The only place in town to get Independent make of Incandescent light bulbs. 13 for $2.40 or 20 cents each.
