The i wheat raised is hard wheat of good ' quality and in Canada, as in the ' United States, it has been commanding a good price for some years. Wheat is of course the great staple product of this section. The short growing season makes it impossible to grow corn, for the raising of which this sofl would seem otherwise to be ~gpécially adapted. Other small grains grow as well. Flax is grown to a considerable extent, and is very profitable _crop on mewly broken ground. Because of the absence of local markets - comparitively little attention has been given to the raising of vegetables, though the cutput of potatoes is conéfidmue. At the Indisn Head ex | periment station a yield of 400 bushels | per acre of potatoes has®been secured, | afid above two hindred bushels is not . uncommon in the new lands. The po‘tatoes raised here are unblemished, owing to the absence of the blight prevailing in areas which have been ~ longer cultivated. A good deal of live _stock is being raised. There are few running streams, but many lakes, and the pasturage is of course excellent. - A Need Which ls imperative. - The &afflomfintdww | est to the American people. The prob-
