William B. Helmes, an old Grand Army man, and Rev. Frederick T. An. gevine of White Plains both testified that they had talked with Thaw and that he appeared to them to be rational. The latter witness told of visiting Thaw in his cell when the prisoner showed him & package of et ters which he sald involved the character of young girls who had been assoclated with Stanford White. They had not been brought out in evidence at his trial and he wanted Dr. Angevine to read them, but he only glanced at two or three and did not open the envelopes, the witness said.

Rug gles, 40 years old, formerly a school teacher in Denver, Col, who has been searching for emplorment in Chicago for a month, was found unconscious in hig room at the Chicago hotel, 156 Clark street, yesterday and the police believe he attempted to commit suicide by taking strychnine poison while despondefit. A posteard was received by Rug gles from a woman, believed to be his wife, and mystery was added to the case by an expression on the card to the effect that “all would be over" when the card was received by him:

Rail, a homesteader, and H. N. Rutherford, who, with his family, was at the Rail home, was killed.
