: . g hay O : Y g | . Opening “of Rosebud Indian Reservation _ ' South Dalota. - President Roosevelt has signed the proclamation throwing open for homestead settlement 416,000 acres of land in Gregory county, South Dakota. At present this land is held by the Indians, and is known as The Rosebud Reservation. : Registration for these lands will begin early in July, and Chamberlain and Yankton have been designated as the points of registry. Chamberlain is point of final entry. _ . - The land is valuable for diversified farming, and corn is the prinecipal crop. Portions of Gregory county that are too rough for. farming are well zlgd&pt‘ed for raising eattle and hogs—a profitable ocr&u pation in South ota. ' ‘ < : i Improved farm land outside the reservation sells for $25; unimproved farm land for $l5; grazing land for $lO an acre. - : ' Registry for these valuable lands will take place at Chamberlain and Yankton, July 6to July 23,1904. Permits to go on the reservation will be issued there. e = : ' . The Way to the Rbsebud Reservation. | Chamberlain, Platte, Geddes and Yankton, S. D.;are the best points from which to enter the reservation. The drawing to determine order in which persons may make entry for homestead lands will be held at Chamberlain, commencing July 28. : v i : Chamberlain is one of the points of registry (the first process in taking up land), and the seat of the Government Land Office, where final entry for lands on the reservation must be made. Itis a town of over 2,000 inhabitants, and it has for a number of years been the fayorite entry point of cattlemen and landmen to the trans-Missouri section of South Dakota. 1t is well equip;l)ed to'take care of those who will visit the Rosebud reservation. It ht;s one large brick hotel and a dozen smaller ones, and a score of livery stables. ‘ =, : - Best of all, there is a steamboat line running down the Missouri River from Chamberlain directly to the reservation, a distanee of thirty miles. Two steamboats will make this trip daringthe summer, and afford convenient and comfortable transportation to the land opened for settlement. There is also a pontoon bridge across the Missouri River at Champberlain forjthe use of those who prefer horses or teams to the boats. The roads are excellent. - ; : Chamberlain is the western terminus of the lowa and Dakota division of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway. ‘ Platte, S.'D., is twelve miles from the reservation. There 18 a good ferry across the Missouri River about twelve miles west of the town, and the roads are good. The population is about 1,200, and there are a half dozen hotels (one_new one) and liveries. It is the northern terminus of the line of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway from. Sioux City and Yankton, 1560 miles northwest of Sioux City. ] _; Geddes, S. D., is on the latter line, eleven miles nearer Sioux City. It is a most accessible point for landseekers going to the Rosebud reservation. There is a good ferry across the Missouri River twelve miles southwest of Geddes, and the trip to the reservation can be quickly and comfortably made. -The roads are good. Geddes has been the center of a big land movement during the last five years and is well equipped to handle landseekers: There is one three-story brick hotel and.a dozen smaller ones. There are a dozen good livery stables. v ? / Yankton, S. D., is another point designated by the governmeit as a point of registry for lands on the Rosebud reservation. It is sixty-one miles northwest of Sioux City, on the Platte line, and 578 miles from Chicago. One can leave Chicago at 6.06 p. m. and-arrive at Yankton the next noon, or’ leave Chicago at 10:256 p. m. and reach Yankton at7:ls p. m. the next day. Yankton has a population of 5,000, three" banks, four newspapers, two large brick hotels anga dozen smaller.ones. It is also the starting point for a number of stage lines, and the livery facilities are excellent. From Yankton to Geddes is 76.6 miles, and from Yankton to Platte, 88.5 miles. = . Train Service to South Dakota. : From Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Omaha, Rock: Island, Davenport; Dubuque, Des Moines and Sioux City, as well as from other points.in Illinois, Minnesota, lowa and Missouri, direct service to South Dakota is offered via the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway. “Its main lines and branch lines fairly gridiron the rich, agricultural and stock country that lies east of the Missouri River in South Dakota. ™The mileage of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway in South Dakota is more than 1,200 miles, and by the building of extensionsis being rapidly increased. - N ; ; 4 ‘ You can leave Chigago‘ via Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway any evening and reach! most any point in South Dakota,as far as Chamberlain, Getldes, Yankton or Platte, the next afternoon. = The service to these towns is daily except Sunday. Dr | P Q 2825 Keeley St., CHicAGO, {LL., Oct,, 2, 1902. I suffered with falling and congestion of the womb, with severe imns throth the groins. I sufered terribly at the time of menstruation, had blinding headaches and rushing of blood to the brain. What to try I knew not, for it seemed that I had tried all and failed, but I had never tried Wine of Cardui, that blessed remedy for sick women. I found it pleasant to take and soon knew that I had the right medicine. New blood seemed to course through my veins and after using eleven bottles I was a well woman. Mrs. Bash is now in perfect health because she took Wine of Cardui for menstrual disorders, bearing down pains and blinding headaches when all other remedies failed to bring her relief. Any sufferer may secure health by taking Wine of Cardui in her home. The first bottlé convinces the patient she is on the road to health. Decoration Day was duly observed at Cosperville Monday, notwithstanding the rain. Several old soldiers put flowers and set flags on the graves of thirty-three comrades, after which they assembled at the Baptist church and listened te a fine sermon delivered by Rev. Miller of Wakarusha. Market Letter, June 1, 1904, , Wheat—The market was higher at the opening and with very slight reactions continued advancing till the close at the high point of the -day. The principal piece of news was the decrease of over five million in the world’s visible. As we have said so often the situation is exceptionally bullish’'and we think it is merely a question of time till a muech higher level'is reached. With a smaller crop than last year growing and the old crop nearly exhausted the position of the shorts seems unusually perilous. : ; ; Corn—There was bhig buying of corn both for long and short accounts, the report that the present rush receipts wds soon to stop and less favorable advices from the recently planted grain, and cut worms being reported from several sections were the prinicpal factors. We feel that the big short interest that has been growing up during the weakness of the past fortnight has laid the foundation for a good bull movement. *Oats—This market shared the strength of other grains, the July being the strongest. There is no change but a little more general realization of bullish features of dwindling supplies and the late seeding, making July an old crop month. - . House for Rent. . Goaood residence. - Deafness Cannot Be Cured By local applications,. as they cannot reach the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way to cure deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies: Deafness is caused by an inflamed condition of the mucous lining of the Eustachian Tube. When this tube is inflamed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed, deafness is the result, and unless the inflammation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are caused by Catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condition of the mucous surfaces. : os - We will give One Hundred Dollars for any case of Deafness (caused by catarrh) that cannot be cured by Hall’s Catarrh Cure.
