All the best things in this world are scattered with a lavish hand and we do not know how rich we are until we sit down toreckon up our treasures. The love of parents, the affection of brothers and sisters, the help of teachers, the sympathy of friends, the companionship of books, the gift of ¢hildren, the joys of home—all of these are given to all sorts and conditions of men. If those you loxe and who love you have been spared to you another year, there should have been a Thanksgiving season in your home. What ig any failure in business or ecalamity in . fortune or disappointment in ambition, or weariness in labor. or infirmity in health compared with the loss of a husband or wife or child? Into many a home death has come and a glory has vanished from the earth. Buteven in these homes there is reason for thanksgiving, and the sorrow should not have been of those who sorrow without hope. 'The promise of life eternal is ours, and ours the expectation of a glad reunion. It mav seem strange for a poultryman to interpose any objection to the high prices that prevoiled throughout the past year for eggs, and yet, in one respect at least,it has not been an unalloyed blessing. Last spring very many of us yielded to the temptation of turning our eggs into ready cash instead of putting them in an incubator or under hens... The result is a very perceptible shortage of fowls. The indications are that eges will be still higher this winter than tast year. 'The storage houses are short and all provisions rule high. The wise poultryman, therefore, will make an extra effort to produce eggs this winter, He can do this most successfully by careful attention to his feeding rations. Kggs are largely a question of diet. Feed the hen the right kind of food, and she cannot help but lay. Itis a pretty well established fact that fresh™ cut green bone is the cheapest of all poultry foods and at the same time, the greatest egg producer. The man who wants to produce eggs cannot do better than to get a green bone and vegetable cutter and his hens the food that makes them lay. This advice can be used by several of our neighboring . farmers. T
