Rev. L. B. Payne, Agent and Trustee of the Orphan’s Home at Macon, Ga., Writes a Letter Dated February sth, 1889, :

“I have been using Swift’s Specific with the children of the orphan’s home under my charge with the best results. I began its use between nine and ten years ago, and have seen many remarkable results. S

Quite a number of the children had constitutional blood diseases resulting from sins of the parents and every one of these children were cured of the ‘horrible taint by the use of S. S. S. - There’ have also been' scores of children in the institution whose systems (they have been mostly without the benefits of parental care) were enervated by dirt eating and other foul practices. Every one of these children have taken S. S. S. and all have ‘been signally benefitted by it. All have been cured who have taken enough of it. We have alsotwo inmates of the home, subject to painful recurring attacks of erysipelas. Neitler one improyed under the treatment usuat for the disease. When all other medicines was discarded and they took 8. 8. 8. the eure in each case was quick and permanent, for they have been well for fiye years and there has been no return of the disease. 1 could tell much more of the remarkable cures of blood disease by 8. 8. 8. for I have seen it used and know its value,

CRIME IN FRANCE. ’l‘wo--Tifiird s ofthe Criminals Under TwenfyOne Years of Age. Of 26,000 criminals arrested in Paris in the course of last year—the figure itsell seems incredibly large—l6,ooo had not attained the age of twenty. There is just now an epidemic of crime of violence perpetrated by young men, and if the thieves and assassins at present confined in French prisons were sorted according to their age, it would be found that the very large majority were made up of youths between sixteen and twenty.

These statistics were supplied by the prosecuting counsel in the last judicial sensation that has come before the Paris courts, and the course of the tria] supplied the explanation of the fact. It was a murder case of extraordinary brutality. The victims were an old woman of seventy-eight and her lodger, the organist of the church, an old manof seventy. The criminal was the son of the parish beadle, and the motive for the murder was mere theft. The house was broken into at night, the old man struck down and left for dead on the staircase, and then the old woman: was brutally murdered. The hoardings of both—a few hundred francs—were Sarried off, and the thief was arrested in bed the same day with the money in his possession and his elothes stained with blood. '

At the trial it was proved thatalong career of crime culminated in this horrible and mercenary autrage—the evidence was convineing and the jury found the murderer ‘‘Guilty with extenua{ting circumstances.” ToEnglish readers the verdict seems inconceivable. Even for French readers it has to be explained, and the explanation adds to the difficulty. The prisoner was ouly eighteen. He had long, fair hair, blue eyes and the face of a young girl. No wonder the French prisons are full of young prisoners.—London Daily oy s s
