AN Oup Courr Svir.—Dr. Mackenzie, of the Philadelphia Press, tells the following story of the long and varied service of a literary Court ‘suit: -"““Originally made for, paid for, and worn by Samuel Rogers, the bard, the ‘Peau, the banker, it performed yeoman’s %L;@ for him during many years. At it, somewhat about the age of 80, the bard of memory put the dress by, in lavender. Soon after, 'Southey died, and Wordsworth was appointed to succeed him as poet laureate. It wasa point of etiquette for this new official to present himself at court and pay “his respects to his royul mistress on his appointment. © Stronzly objecting to pay 8350 for ‘a new conrt-suit, he. borrowed that in which Samuel Rogers had visited the royal drawing xoom half a century before, and, thus atired, kissed hands. In a few years, Wordsworth also passed away, and Alfred Tennyson becamie poet laurcate. The -court-suit of Mr. Rogers was again put on duty; and duly encascd the limbs of Tennyson, as it had thosc of Wordswortli.”

« The British Outrages. : The clanor raised by the rceeut researches is largely aided by the Dewoccratic papers, and evidently has a political object. Our Demoeratic managers know very well hoiv to make themost of a thing. Kausis, the President says, has had too much attention: the game thatis to,be layed there requires a diversion of %he publie attention;— and there is nothing which 'so soon ‘¢alls out popular interest as a forcign .controversy. = The letter of Lord NAPIER to Gen. Cass diseloses the poley which has dictated these searches, and shows that the conduet of the British cruisers is not, by any means without an adequate cxeuse, Tt scems that the slave trade has increased, within a few years, at a fearful rate, and that it s carried on almoest entircly under the protection of the American flag. - Lord NAPIER gives a long list of vessels recently captuvéd, and with it, parratcs the metheds taken for the protection of the trade Dy false American pafi%n and the sanctity claimed for our flag. j’i‘rhqscarc‘.lgs hive been instituted to prevcat these impositicns. Cuba is now the groat sluve arkct of the world, and, in accordance, we* believe, with the suggestion made by Gen. Cass the cfforts to suppress the trade have been transferred from the coast of Africa to the coast of Cuba. This is the reason why the scarches have all been in the neighborhood of the Gulfi—Jlo- - Blude. : v
