:,RO»SI,’}_‘.EEI‘.US QL gE. THIRTY-SEVENTH VOLUME OF THE 1 NA STATE JOURNAL! THE Journal is now entering its thistyseventh volume. It was established in 1522, and is the oldest paper in Indiana. It is equalin age to the eity of Indianapolis, aud is nearly as old as our State Covernment, It ‘was established when Indiana was little else than a wilderness, and wben .Indianapolis scarcely existed except in name. K has lived and grown upon its own merits—seldom receiving official patronage or governmental favors.. Its name is us a **household word” throughiout the length and breadth of the State, and its position upon all publi¢c matters—politicdte otherwise—is o well known' that anything said in_referencc to its course upon any of the questions rnow before the people would be superfluouns, . * 1 *

~While the Journal will continue teo advocate the great principles of freedom, and give its support to the Republioan Party, as the party of the people—aoting with "the party when right and repudipting 1t when wrong--it will be for the coming year more of-a farhi‘ly paper than it has ever been, and be made more acceptable to the general reader than.a purely political paper couldbe. =~ ° . Thegéss,ion of Congress under a new-Ad-ministration is always fraught with more or less importance to the welfare of the country and the present Session will be locked upon with feelings of peculiar interest. The position of the Administration upon Kansas affairs is a matter of much public concern. The Utah guestion and the progress of the anticipated war in that quarter, will be a subject of great public i iterest as long as it remaios ungettled. Events are transpiring in our own country and throughout the world to make a newspaper indispensable to every individual. Bounteous crops have blessed the husbandman throughout the land ; peace, plenty and prosperity smile upon all; and we appear before the public, asking for its support, fecling that we shall receive it liberally. The past course of the Journal will be the best index of what the future will be, and promising to improve upon former efforts in pruducing an acceptable family and political newspaper,we submit our c¢laims toa gencrour and intelligent people, = - "L .- dTerms: - : One copy One year vy iceilis s vivsne. 150 Ten copies one year, and oue to the get“ter upofithe clubios .o v =5O 1500 Twenty copiet one year, to one address 20 00 Thirty five copiesione year, to one ad- - - drees, and one to getter of chib,.. 35 00 Fifty, copies one year, to one address, - and two to geltter of c1ub,....v0.. 50 00 f& In Clubs of ten the name of -each subscriber will be written on Lis paper, but in larger Cinbs where the papers arc sent for one dollar each, no name will .be written on the papers, but the entire ¢club seit to one person for hiim to distribute. .
