" The telegraph brings the news of an«other fearful accident on the New York Central Railroad, resulting in the instant death of eight persons, and the mangling of forty others. The accident occurred "at half past six o’clock {:stenhy morning, between Whitesro and Utica. It was occasioned ‘by: the crushing of a bridge over a creek, while two trains were passing over 4t in opposite directions. The ‘Cincinnati Express, going east at a high rate of speed, was literally tornin splinters and threwn promiscuously into the bed of the creek. The details of crushed heads, scalps and eyelids torn off, _and. thé other concomitants of the catastrophe, are sickening to read, as they must have been appalling to behold.— The cause of the catastrophe is stated by one authority to have been rotten timbers in the bridge, and another defective iron in an -axle—it makes no difference to the tortured victims. Mr. John 1. Tracy Sup’t of the Chicago & Rock Tsland R. R., is among the injur; ed.— C hicago Daily Tribune May 12.
