Though a Demoorat, the President has just as | fine tastes as we Aristocrats—for flowers, equipages, style, display, &c.— Now a carriage, you know, is only a carriage, and a carriage and hcrses are only a carriage and horses, but to have “‘an equipage,”’ there must be a driver and that driver in livery, with a footghan, too. And there must be also, a groom;—for a grogm in a stable is almost as important as a groom in the chamber. Well ‘upon this a great battle has been waged .in the purlieus. of the White House. Patrick, the groom was ordered th put on livery ! Pat said she’d be d—d before he would thus make a nigger of himself.” Pat-was remonstrated with, but Pat rebelled, whereupon Pat wasdischarged—turned off—banished from the sacred stable ~of the White House—because Pat - would not put on the toggery of Sambo. | Irishdom, of eourse, is in confusion con_sternation, and rebellion. What Love will Dare. - We condense a funny love affair from the Cincinnati Gazette: A young lady of Louisville, with charms weighing $lOO,OOO, well invested, was sent by her guardian toa Cincinnati boarding school, to separate her from her lover. The lover soon followed, stole an interview . with his sweetheart then purchased a boy’s vutfit and sent the* bundle to the boearding school. Soon a boy-came out of the boarding school, joined the Kentuckian, found frierds who procured facilitics for tying the knot, and the two young gcnt/a took a doubte bedded room at the 'Walnut strect House. ~ Onlyone bed was found tumbled in the morning the boy became an object of suspicion, satisfactory explanations to the landlord followed, and, after the: bride had assumed feminine garwents the happy pair took a boat and putout.” - i¢ el
