—The county newspaper, says the Crawfordsville Journal, is always prepared to protect the citizens against every imposition and to defend every worthy person from any unjust attack. ~—The band concert in Kann’é Hall, Christmas night, was not as largely attended as might have been desired; yet, considering the extremely cold weather, the “band boys” have neo cause to feel that they were “slighted” by our citizens. Our limited space does not admit of a particularizing of the many excellent pieces rendered, but we cannot refrain from making fis vorable mention of the soprano solo by Miss Clara Luke and the piano solos by Miss Annie Sack. The latter’s task was rendered doubly difficult by reason of the imperfection of the instrument which was at her disposal. The orchestra music was indeed delightful. The band proper executed some of the most difficult pieces in a wanner indicating a high order of mu. sical talent and the best of training. “Forest Echo Polka,” “Bass Solo,” and “1001 Night Waltz” were simply grand and elicited hearty applause. —The people of Broadway are making extensive preparations for a grand concert, under the supervision of Prof. J.F.Kinsey, or Saturday, January 4th, This is the Professor’s fifth musical convention in that locality, and in interest and results bids fair te eclipse the former ones. Some time ago a very wealthy man named Lewis died in Hoboken, leaving the bulk of his/ property to the government to be applied to the reduction of the national debt.
