We understand it to bé the intemtion of these gemtlemen to lower the dam to such an extent as to reclaim a vast body of land now oyerflowed, and in regard to which'a great deal of bitter feeling has existed among the people along the Elkhart river. : :

FATAL ACCIDENT AT SWAN.—-The Swan correspondent of the Kendallville News reports the following:— “Our quiet little village was the scene of a heart-rending occurreace on Friday of last week. Emerson Boreland, a youth of some eighteen years, was accidentally shot by Mr. Eugene M. Holmes.. The affair was as follows: Young Boreland purchased a revolver of Holmes. Getting out of repair he carried it back to Holmes and handed it to him half cocked, saying at the same time that one of the chambers was loaded. Inadjusting the cylinder the weapon was discharged, the ball taking effect in the corner of the left eye, Medical aid was summeoned, but all in vain. After an hour’s. suffering life left the body. Thus passed away one of Swan’s noble young men—cut down when blossoming into manhood, leaving father and mother, brether and sister to mourn the loss of one who can never be replaced.” A

WilliamrSawyer wassent to the penitentiary for two vears from Lagrange county, on conviction for bigamy. He cheated the printer, and we say, served him right. Let others take warning.
